Gooey's Got A New Computer And Has Embarked On A Downloading Odyssey

Yippeeeee.

Today I downloaded 158 songs (up til now) and have some 80 songs outstanding....

My frenzy kind of focused on my youth, it being the 80's. Big names of course are Joy Division, Yazoo, Kate Bush and all of them one-day-flies like Daed Or Alive and Kajagoogoo.

I am a happy litlle baby....

Question: Is it against the law to download music where you live? Here in the US, there is a big campaign against it by legislative measures.

And if it is, I do not feel very guilty, as long as they keep the cd prices too high.

The entire music business is one big mafia, Warner, Sony and Universal are pawnbrokers, keeping prices up way too high.

In Hollland there is a huge chain of record stores that are in league (dont ask me how I knoe) with the record business to keep milking customers.

The downloading extravaganza made them realise they are wrong. They won't admit it, but ONE record chain is going to lower their prices, forgot which one.
They will offer three different standards'; a bootleg like album, without cover art will cost you around 8 bucks. Then a step up for 12 bucks and then a deluxe for around16/17/18, I forgot also.
This is smart thinking. You reacht the customer again, instead of counting gold nuggets up in the executive suite.

FI-NAL-LY. After 14 years of monopolising the market, they understand that they excist by the grace of the public. Prince is smart, doing business as he does of late. The big media chains are going to fall. And he was in time to distantiate himself from that.

Remember, here in Holland we pay up to 20 to 25 bucks for an album that often just lasts 35 minutes (Strokes, White Stripes). The prices were kept high becuz in the beginning the record companies said that switching from vinyl to cd cost them alot.
And then the download sites made them even raise the prices, saying they were threathened and had to pay their artists from something. Do you know the extravegant bonuses music biz execs get? THAT was what kept prices up; greed.
And of course J-Lo has to keep an housestaff of around 150.

So I will keep sharing files and defy them this way until they come totheir senses. I just download songs, not albums. I still buy them, even though I think they are way too expensive.

But some things you just need in your collection. I love art design. But I also love the possibilities of the new technology, look at the I-pod craze. Apple is one of the few to get on board of something exciting.

I mean, getting busy with my cd collection is getting me way more involved than just listening to the radio would. Unles of course they are playing Franz Ferdiand or Modest Mouse.

Anyways. Does that explain it a bit? I know it is wrong perse, but so is peeing against a tree. Still; if there is need; I'll do it.
