Great movie, one of my all-time favorites. Kevin hasn't put out a bad film. He always makes you laugh, but that one really makes you feel. The hockey game parking lot scene for example.

Joey Lauren Adams I thought did a great job-and Affleck actually had more range in it than anything else I've seen him in. Kevin definitely brings out the best in the actors he works with. Jason Lee is just classic Lee. Shame he couldn't have followed his work with Kevin with some better choices.

It seems to be rare when I can honestly reccommend all of a director's films, but Kevin just somehow gets it right. If you haven't seen "An Evening with Kevin Smith" for example-and on this board I'd be shocked because of his Prince story alone-you really are in for a great time. At the very least, I'm sure 90% of this board's heard/read the story by now.

As for his writing-I know there's some films he's written knowing who's going to be playing them (after Mallrats, he knew he wanted Affleck in Amy, and always had him in mind for the roles he played in the later films). With Dogma though, the Loki character for example was originally going to be played by Jason Lee (a nod to Chasing Amy), with Matt Damon as Azrael. Seeing the movie you can't imagine anyone but Lee as Asrael-but I've noticed there's many times the character's fully fleshed out by the actor later, if it's not one of his core View Askew players.

If you haven't heard, he's making his way to big budget comic book films now-he's directing The Green Hornet in the future and for fans of another series-Fletch Won.

Definitely a guy that deserves the success.
