So in my normally wonderful group of friends we can't seem to get rid of the drama no matter what we do. And I'm getting annoyed.
To make an incredibly long story at least a little less long, here's the gist. Two of the friends in our group (I'll call them Kitty and Will) got together a few years back. They dated off and on, and then finally had a nice long "on" period. They broke up at our last Xmas party (hello, drama!) and things have gone downhill ever since. Will freaked out on Kitty. We're talking showing up when she went out, him obviously wasted, her having to ask bouncers to have him escorted out of clubs she was hanging at for not leaving her alone, he called her like 50 times a day so she changed her number, then he showed up at her house one night wasted and wouldn't leave. She and her roommates wouldn't let him in so he smashed into her car. They called the police. He called her the next day at work and was like "How you like me now?" She finally got a restraining order against him. Meanwhile, he determined it was time to drink his life away and/or kill himself. To a point where one of our friends finally called his parents cause there isn't a damn thing any of us can do and she/we thought they should know what the hell is going on with their son.
Now, through this all, Will's had at least a few friends who are sticking by him, and I know they mean well but in such a fucked up way cause by sticking by him it's basically hanging out getting drunk with him. But the majority of us refuse to see him or be around him unless we know he's sober. That's just the way it's gotta be.

Cut to tomorrow. 4th of July BBQ/party is planned and at the last possible minute (oh, about 20 minutes ago) Kitty gets a call from the hosts saying she's not invited to the party till after 6pm cause Will will be there. WTF???? She was assured long ago he wasn't gonna be there. And she has a restraining order against him!! Why on earth would anyone want him at a party where alcohol will be present, let alone now dis-inviting Kitty just to hang out with his drunken, violent, sorry ass. So now a significant group of us won't be going to the party either till later, cause I refuse to egg him on or help him kill himself. Why can't a party just be a fun party?

Rant over. Sorry. Just had to get it off my chest.

awww, puddin'. sorry to hear the party's gone out of bounds and it hasn't even started yet. sometimes people just don't think.

my advice: hire a clown for tomorrow. preferably one who makes balloon animals.

A clown would be nice.

Yeah, I'm still pissed about this. I think the thing that makes me the most angry in this situation is that "Kitty" seems to be the one getting punished for "Will's" behavior. She's the one who had her car smashed, she's the one who had to endure ongoing threats and harassment. She's the one who had to make that impossibly hard decision AND spend the money to get the restraining order. And now, how do her friends support her? By telling her she can't go places/do things cos they feel bad for and invited Will.

FUCKIN BULL SHIT.

Oh and yeah, one other piece that blows my mind is that 2 of "Will's" primary supporters are women who are/were also close friends with Kitty. Isn't there some sorta code of sisterhood? When another woman is being abused (emotionally,sexually or physically) by a man, aren't women sposed to be there? I know this often doesn't happen and often the victim ends up shamed/punished for taking a stand. Still it makes me sick that this is happening in my group of friends.

I had always hoped we were a bit smarter than all of this.
