La Cabina

Does anybody else remember this?

http://www.wayney.pwp.blu...cabina.htm

It's one of those films that the people who have seen it will always have had the same experience viewing it.

As I recall, I was about 10 years old and it was on late one friday (?) night just before I went to bed. There was something quite fascinating about it, even though it seemed to be just a somewhat light-hearted film about a man stuck in a telephone booth.

But WOW! The ending is truly nightmarish and lived with me for a looong time after. Very few horrors even come close to the uneasy, claustrophobic atmosphere created by this short film.

Even if you haven't seen it, what scared you when you were little?

I don't mean the usual horror films, but the more obscure things on TV, or perhaps in your own home that now have little effect on you, but seemed SO scary at the time?

Lord, i remember this! we were made to watch it at school by our English teacher (RIP, Mr Waite pray) who was totally obsessed with it.

it was utterly freaky, i seem to remember (though i haven't seen it since).

Blimey. What a blast from the past.

Did you take a look at the film's conclusion, on the link?

Brought it all back for me.

Never went near a telephone box for a while after that.

you know, that's strange. i remember sensing the bewildered terror the lead felt and various surreal things happening to him, and i remember the very, very final scene vividly. but i don't recall that (horrendous) image which is the ultimate smack in the face - you know the one i'm referring to! maybe i've blocked it out. confused

The guy who's strangled himself?

Truly creepy (although actually a bit difficult, to be realistic)

Mmm, the strangling's the bit i don't recall.

i do remember the box being replaced and the cycle starting again, though.

i need to see that movie again, for sure.

Do you know if it's available on DVD/Video anywhere?

I'd lurve to see it again and re-create that first viewing.

Ah well, I'll just have to wait until BBC2 put it on one night just before I go to bed, again.

I'm gonna assume that La Cabina means The Cabin Haystack.

You're talking about Citizen Kane, When Orson Welles scales the Statue of Liberty and it topples over under his weight. I know that movie well.

Ahhhhh! That's the one where he's got an army of flying monkeys. I remember it now. nod

I thought he was melted when water was thrown over him? He must have survived the Statue of Liberty thing.

He survived, and so did his little dog ToTo.

Excpet he kept walking around saying "I'll get you my pretty." for the rest of his days.
