The fireworks were GREAT!
So we saw the fireworks last night! What a beautiful night it was for a fireworks display, and with the laying of the Ground Zero cornerstone earlier in the day, the feeling of melancholy patriotism was rife in the city air. I wished we could have gone to see that ceremony. Anyway, we left about 9:00 -- the display started at around 9:20 (9:30 was more like it) -- and got there ten minutes or so later. It was great not to have to drive. I pitied those fools who probably never even found parking the whole night. Just circling and circling around...(I know, I've done it.) I figured that would get us there in plenty of time to have a front row view! ...Little did I know that this event was pretty well advertised... ...Somebody had already taken my spot! So we wended or way up Columbia Hts. through throngs of people. It looked like something out of Day of the Locusts. Except that from what I hear locusts are pretty efficient in the way they pillage the land. This was just crazy. And fun. A lot of little kids. No roaming bandits. A lot of glow sticks and slushees, that sort of thing. We finally managed to find a halfway decent spot on Pineapple and Columbia Hts. where we could glimpse the display through some trees. It was actually not that bad of a spot. Except for the kid with the whistle next to us. He was REALLY into celebrating our independance. His lungs didn't give out for a fraction of a second the whole time. I don't know how he did it. At one point, a kid next to him, who was obviously jealous of the attention this kid was getting, started in as well and they had a little chorus going. But that was part of the fun too. The fireworks lit up the East River and from our side you could see people in Manhattan looking up in awe as well. We didn't ever meet up with Jasmine (Where were you Jazz??!!) but I forgot to bring my cell phone anyway, so it couldn't have happened. Good time! | |

I watched from home. I have been there the last 3 years.. They were just as beautiful as the previous years.. They do a magnificent job! As always!\
I even get a little teary eyed watching them.. I am such a wuss!!! The day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom - Anais Nin
