I'm curious to hear the first reports back about this guitar. I'm interested but it's more of a dream than a reality at the moment.

Wonder if these are the NPGMC Schecter replicas? Maybe Prince had a stash of them in Paisley Park. Would explain why only white and blue are available (I'd be torn between white and peach).

I would be torn between white (as seen in Purple Rain), blue, and peach (wasn't it in the SOTT movie?). If I had the funds, I would pre-order blue mainly because blue is my favorite color.

.I wonder how much of an interest there will be for the cloud guitar?

I think the flyer says that the guitars have the symbol fret markers? So they're already better than the blue on sitting on the Purple Piano @Paisley.

As much as I love guitars, I would feel like a giant poser playing such an iconic guitar in a real stage performance โ€” in front of a real audience โ€” clad in the standard T-shirt and knee-length shorts.

Now if they could somehow create an interface that would let me plug it into my Wiiโ„ข โ€” and trade licks with Dez via Guitar Heroโ„ข โ€” then I might be a buyer at closer to the $100 mark.

Otherwise, $1,750 plus shipping is kinda steep for a conversation piece in the corner of a man-cave โ€” that after three months will be eventually pressed into service as a clothes hamper.

A year and a half from now, you'll be able to get 'em on eBay for a quarter of the current asking price. Mark my words.

A while back, I saw Ronnie Wood โ€” in a documentary about the Stones' Cuba gig โ€” playing this one kick-ass-looking guitar, during Satisfaction. No idea what make it was. But it just sounded KILLER!. And it looked even cooler than it sounded!

If I could ever find one, I would pay a couple grand for one of those. Whatever it was.

Correct. At least it's music related.
I mean, Symbol ping-pong balls, really?

The only trouble is, if you ever go to the stage with this, the reference would be so blatant that you'd better be one hell of an axe grinder, because the audience is going to have huge expectations.
And even if you are, you're going to sound and look mimicking.
We're far from the creative ethic of the Man.

I think the best use for these instruments is for bars and venues owners, who want to give their joint a Hard Rock Cafรฉ touch with a (n expensive) decorative item.

According to a recent email from Paisley Park, these will be made by Schecter, so they should be quality guitars, although $1700 is definitely not custom shop quality. It's interesting that on the Schecter Cloud page, they talk about respecting Prince's wishes and never reproducing them. Perhaps they can make an exception for the estate. confused

.

I imagine people that don't play could want one for display, but be deterred by the price. Whereas people like me that do play usually need to be able to try it out first. I have to do that with every guitar I buy, to get an idea of how it plays/feels/resonates/etc. Either way it seems like a purchase of faith, but an exciting purchase nonetheless.

Literally from the moment Prince died people were petrified his music was now going to be exploited in TV commercials - shock horror - that was the very worse of it!.

.

But now Prince would be spinning mad!

.

I can't believe how much people are out to exploit his legacy!

.

What next...? a Prince doll, curtains and bedding set, slippers, paper plates....

.

When Prince music is finally used in commericals, people will become so desensitised, that the first reaction will be "that's not bad after all".

.

I'm ashamed of all those people exploting his name!

Good point, injuredpinky.

Another thing I would bear in mind as a player if I was thinking about pulling the trigger on one โ€” Anybody buying one of these, I hope they're shit-hot lead guys. Because playing badly on a Japanese Strat is one thing. But playing amatuerishly on a guitar like Prince's, is only going to raise your suckage quotient exponentially โ€” in the eyes and ears of your audience โ€” if you ain't really Brangin' It.

This. He sold them himself. Plus when was the last time he actually played a cloud? 15+ years?

This is what I thought too...ish and then I started a thread http://prince.org/msg/7/435182 and then I got reminded he had played them quite frequently.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who missed Prince and his cloud!

ONA is 14 years ago so I wasn't too far off - I was thinking the Rave dvd. Anytime Prince put his hands near a guitar of any description I was happy headbang but the cloud is pretty special cloud9
Maybe I will get one - wonder what the shipping will be? hmmm

LOL. That's true. Getting a signature guitar is inviting embarrasment. I knew someone back in college who bought a Van Halen striped replica guitar as his first guitar. He never played before, but said he was going to learn Eruption straight up. In the meantime, everyone that saw it of course asked him to play some Eddie. Which he couldn't. He couldn't play anything at all. He eventually took it home, and said he was worried about it getting stolen. In reality I think he was tired of getting embarrased.

I'm interested if this is a "Bolt-on" or "Neck-through" build. Also the type of wood. Maple neck and body?

I emailed Paisley Park these questions, so I'm looking forward to learning the quality of this guitar. If it's legit specs, I may take the bait. smile

I own "Bolt-on" guitars, and they sound great. But, if I'm paying $1,750 for a guitar, I'd rather it be closer to the specs of Prince's Cloud. His was "Neck-Through" and Maple Body.

If they don't even match those simple specs, then I would reconsider buying it. Not because it's a bad guitar, but it would be a huge downgrade to the original. For that much money, they should provide a High Quality Replica.

I wish they would sell a replica Hohner guitar. That's what I most associate with Prince and it was the guitar he played the most for the majority of his career.
