Fans been conned http://www.ebay.com/itm/P..._522wt_932
There were never promos for the NPGMC releases ..these are home burnt and printed from MP3 files.
The price is way stupid and in the details they had two to sell and already have sold one, I feel sorry for the idiot that thought they were getting a collectable, as the seller could just as easily print of ten-twenty or a hundred incuring the cost of ink, blank printable disk, and photopaper (not even a jewel disc-case) total cost $2 ....and that is been generous.
Please do not feed these greedy pigs.
This music was originally share by NPGMC at very reasonable prices and only as MP3 downloads. The art work was created by Statik

Have a look yourselfs.
There are many more like this, The Chocolate Invasion, Slaughterhouse, C-NOTE, Ahdio Shows as well as some copies of One Night Alone (which was indeed released as a CD to NPGMC members at the time, so before buying a copy please consult with genuine org. members that have copies so You can ask the right questions before you buy!!)
All I'm trying to say here is please be careful before you waste your money on virtually worthless stuff.
It would be so easy for me to start selling (conning) like these clowns but lot of Prince fans have looked after me in the past this sort of selling disrespects all principles in been a Prince FAN. The right to free discussion is protected!!

The sale of NPGMC downloads burned to cd-r's is a practice that has been going on for years, and not just on ebay. The sad thing is that it will probably never stop, ever! The other sad thing is that there will always be people willing to part with their money for such items, either people ignornat of what they are buying, or who are ignorant of the fact that these recordings can be found and downloaded for free after a little hunting, or simply people who know what they are buying, know they can still be found to download, but simply don't care and would prefer a physical cd with badly printed artwork. The other point I would like to make is that these sales are not just exclusive to NPGMC material. There are plenty of unscrupulous people who download many of the excellent free recordings and then burn them to cd-r's, print the artwork (and in some cases deface the artwork to obliterate the "FREE" logo's) and sell them openly on ebay and the like. This practice is just as much a con as the music club recordings being sold, and is throwing dirt in the faces of the people who work hard to bring us this material for free.
The information you have posted here is useful, even for the hope that it will put off some people who were considering purchasing such discs, even if this thread detracts one person from giving money to these people then it has done a good job. However, as I stated above, these people will not go away, and if they do there will always be someone to replace them, no matter how many times you report them. Sad, but true.
Good thread, and one that I hope people will pay attention to and make them think a little before splashing the cash.

yeah, and I have no big issue with it as long as they are being sold as such. to pay $50 each for those is pretty bad
the idea that the seller says they are not CD-Rs but factory made silvers implys they are real.

The real problem, imo. | |

Yes, I think the sale of free label recordings is on a bigger scale the NPGMC stuff, but both are a problem. It's not just Prince either, I know of other recordings by other artists that are available for free and were always intended to be free, and they too are being sold on ebay and the other sites. Greed.

if you mean physical official products that were given away for free, those are fair game to be sold. it is when people mass produce counterfeit copies to sell that is the problem. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

I meant downloads, sorry I should have mentioned that. Free downloads from official sites etc.

oh yeah. I agree. what about the fakes of things like Jill Jones or Appolonia CDs. (i remember someone on AMP begging for months for a apples CD and he finally got one.) "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Some of those can be a bit more difficult to spot, but it's the same story as the other things, they are a con. I bought a Madhouse 8 cd once from a well known shopping site (not ebay), it was not super expensive, but it was not cheap either. The person had great feedback and all looked well, I could not believe my luck. When the cd was delivered I knew instantly something was wrong, it just felt cheap compared to my other real Paisley cd's. When I played the disc, I found it was a very bad rip from a very crackly vinyl copy. I sent several emails before I got a refund and complained to the site, but the person was still selling them and other associated artist cd's for months afterwards.

a few ways to spot them is: picture discs, bonus tracks*, and if the seller has sold a several others of the same CD--all point to fakes. *Like Jill jones with Baby Cries (Ay Yah) or 77 Bleeker St. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

There is actually a sticky in this forum about counterfeit Prince and associated artist releases:
http://prince.org/msg/9/360873
Obviously, any item purporting to be a CD or vinyl copy of something that was never officially released except as an online download is a counterfeit. It might help to add a list of releases that fall into that category to the thread above, if someone can come up with a list.
The fact that people make money selling this stuff is a scandal. As I said in another thread, I'd like to see Prince put all this stuff out in a limited authorized vinyl box set, so that the money that is going to these crooks would go to him instead. But, of course, that's his business. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I assume what rdhull is saying is that giving bootlegs away for free is also illegal. Whether that's true or not, there is a moral difference between giving bootlegs away and making money from selling them. But more importantly, someone selling a bootleg of a NPG Music Club online-only release and claiming it's legitimate is committing a fraud on the consumer as well as copyright infrigement. What bothers me here is the fraud aspect. Nobody who downloads something for free from an unofficial source thinks they are getting a genuine collector's item, but some of these eBay buyers probably do.

All of above is my point....only a couple of years ago I would have been a customer, but luckily I had no money then...now I feel lucky and a little more educated.
Shake the right hands and you will find a lot of Prince fans can be very generous with information. Most are good folk to a point that they hate to see others exploited!! The right to free discussion is protected!!

While we're on the subject of fakes, does this look like a fake Krush Groove CD to you:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/K...722wt_1398
The seller in the past has sold a lot of fake Apollonia 6 CDs. This purported Krush Groove soundtrack has bonus tracks, which is a red flag. Does anyone have the real Krush Groove CD, if there is one? That's one I would like to get but I'm definitely not paying for a fake. Looks similar to this one on Amazon (private seller) selling as a Debbie Harry song been included on the Album http://www.amazon.co.uk/F...mp;sr=1-11
Here it does give a Cat number... and claims it was an original Japannese release but most importantly, an English text lyric inner.
Now you should be able to question the seller on this or risk it and purchase the Amazon version! [Edited 3/25/12 8:41am] The right to free discussion is protected!!

i think it is fake. very vew cds of that album were made. [Edited 3/25/12 8:39am] "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

I'm pretty sure it's fake too based on the other items the seller has sold recently. However, in this thread someone claimed that the Japanese CD did include two bonus tracks:
http://prince.org/msg/5/189336
It would be nice to get clarification on that from someone who bought the CD when it was issued and not on eBay. If a genuine copy did come up on eBay I expect the price would be in the hundreds of dollars. That is a reputable Amazon seller I've dealt with before so I decided to go ahead and buy it. If it's determined to be a fake, I'll post pictures in the sticky. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

As far as I recall, Krush Groove soundtrack was only relesased on cd in Japan. It contained 2 extra tracks that were not on the vinyl or tape versions. There is an "extended" version of the cd floating around with other tracks on it, but it's a fake.
*edit, oh sorry, you already knew that. I should read previous threads before posting.

The disc looks quite convincing compared to other fake WB cd's, or maybe the bootleggers are getting better at their game. Bad picture too.

I have several genuine Warner-Pioneer Japan CDs that I can compare to the copy I just ordered from Amazon. I might be able to tell if it's a fake that way. The bootleggers are always constantly improving as known fakes get spotted--the matrix on the Vanity 6 CD I posted about in the sticky was more convincing than previous fakes--but is there enough demand for the Krush Groove CD to make it worth their while?
