Looking for Poster Interested in buying the promotional poster (from wrekastows) from the "For You" lp/cassete. I've googled and read that there are two posters, and a few orgers may own one or both. Looking for NM to M condition poster(s). Orgnote me if you can help. Thanks! |

There are 2 different ones. One is the album cover, the other is a photo of Prince, shirtless, wearing a leather jacket. Good luck and be prepared to pay quite a bit for them. |

Thanks for the pics squirrel. Is the P-1 poster the one that would've been displayed in record stores??? DM-1 would've been the display in the US record stores? Con-1 promotional display for that album? I'm "assuming" (I know. That darned word.) if the posters were being sold on tour, they weren't hanging on the walls at stores promoting an upcoming release, right? Which ones are the rarest? Thank you again for everyone's help. I want that DM-1 promo...my guess is the P-1 that would be the hardest to find in NM cond. [Edited 7/7/10 23:48pm] |

I'm not a poster collector, though I have a few, but I don't know much about them or relative scarcity. If the poster says promo in the above descriptions, it's probably safe to assume it was a record store/radio-only item that was part of a media kit or packaged with advanced copies of the album. Sort of like the 12"x12" flats that used to be sent to record stores which were basically just trimmed copies of the vinyl LP cover.
I wonder why those 12"x12" flats aren't considered posters and listed here. Actually, I don't remember anyone ever talking about Prince flats... If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. |

I have asked that same question regarding the flats. When the Uptown issue was being put together and photographed, I suggested it, but was turned down for some reason. I have a TON of US promo flats. |

In my opinion, I don't consider the flats to be a "true" poster.
It's basically one side of an album, or what used to be an album back in the old days.
So I'm kind of glad the Uptown crew didn't include them in their poster editions.

That's too bad. I understand the reasoning behind leaving them out, but it would be nice to have a rundown of which flats were available and the scarcity of each one. Some were printed on both sides for hanging from a ceiling, correct?
I also would love to see a pre-press copy of all those posters in Uptown in color. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. |

There were two 'Posterography' editions of UPTOWN Magazines, #19 and #30. The Posters were mostly one guys collection. I think they opted for black and white reproduction due to printing costs.
A few are omitted, although its a hugely impressive selection. We still have copies of #30 available, the back cover is made of colour illustrations of some of the contents.
There has never been a comprehensive 'Flats' listing that I have seen. The 2-sided ones are for use on windows / hanging in the pvc vinyl hangers /sleeves, so that you can see them from both sides. |

Yep. Uptown Fanzine. And it was a reference resource piece, they weren't selling them. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. |

The earliest one that I have is for 1999. That one and Purple Rain are single sided with white backs. Most of the others (US at least)are double sided with the exception of the Diamonds and Pearls flat which has a plain, blue back. The SOTT is probably the coolest one. |

Cool. I like the Madhouse 8 flat a lot. I wonder if there was a flat for the 1994 Black Album release. I imagine there was, but I've only seen the larger posters, which are uber sweet. I loved that marketing push. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. |
