You could spend the same amount and get a better guitar, with better hardware. But, the Cloud made by Schecter - either bolt-on neck or neck-through, is a very playable, decent sounding guitar. They chip so easily though (as they're fully painted), the value really goes away if you want a guitar to play and not display. I chose the latter for my blue Cloud.
Do your research on the one that you want. For instance, later Clouds sold through NPGMC have dot fret markers instead of fret markers. There are also blems on the market, rejected by Schecter due to small imperfections (chips), that can net you a real deal. I bought a blem that had been correctly touched up, and no one notices it. Just get detailed pix before you buy. They came from the factory in a cardboard box, you'll want that too, for collectibility. Also note that the Cloud is by design, a 3/4 scale guitar - that is, it's much smaller than most folks are used to. Remember, Schecter Clouds are not built to be identical to Prince's Clouds. That would have made them cost-prohibitive. There is enough info on Prince's Cloud rigs that you can take a Schecter and approximate his builds pretty faithfully by retro-fitting your own hardware. The Cloud was sold on NPGMC as neck-through and bolt-on. Blue and Pearl White were the color choices. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |
