the catalogue numbers are correct, so no jive there...i'd still proceed with caution on that one, though.

It's up to $1,125 which is a lot of scratch for an unverified item. Even if it's legit it's a lot of money.

Hmmmm.

Naturally I'd say fake, but there are a couple of serious collectors bidding here.

But I never remember this thing, and I had a direct source to all prints in 1987-90.

But never say never. Anyone?

I remember being told by a serious collector that only very few copies of a 2x12" release are said to exist. Now this appears to be a test pressing for one of the 12"s - if it's not a fake. I guess a finished one (with labels) would fetch even more... dunno.

This 2x12" version I think is just like the original US CD longbox version from 1987 *really* incredibly rare.

I have some notes on both releases on my computer at home. I'll try to post them later.

And no, I didn't bid on the item nor did I sell it. Yet I must admit I considered placing a serious bid... which would've been kinda fall-back into my addiction.

Well, I promised to look it up and here it is... it's a snippet of a collector's website which is still up. However, it appears to be kinda dead and not maintained (destroyed links).

The most current information on the site is from the mid/late nineties.

Here's the snippet following the description of The Black Album's value and its story:

"NOTE: A two-12"-disc (45 RPM) DJ promotional set also exists with two songs per side (catalogue number: 25677DJ). This is much rarer than the above disc, but the country of origin is not clear, though it may well have been a USA pressing. In value, you would not go too far wrong if you add between 30 per cent and 50 per cent of the value of the above-mentioned "Black Album" issue. If anyone actually has this item, please email me or this site; I would be extremely interested in a description of this elusive issue."

At least the cat.no. is the same as that of the auctioned item.

So Alan Leeds went from being road manager of D'Angelo to selling baseball cards and $7.00 cd's on the internet? That's a harsh fall. I guess he really needs D'Angelo to do something again soon.
