If it's that shitty "Schecter" clone then a reasonable fair selling price would be about $300...
If it's an "Auerswald" (which I doubt) you could fetch between $10000 - $15000 for it...
If it's the one Prince used on the "Purple Rain" and "Parade" Tours (modified bass version made by David Husain) then sky's the limit... But Prince still has that one, dents and all... So...

Hi, I have gone to the site of the company that was hired to design the guitar for Prince from what I have read you can not buy the guitar the only way to get one is if prince gives it to you. Which I won mine in 1997 on the radio in New Orleans, I called up to win concert tickets and when I went down to pick them up they said that I had won a guitar desined by prince which would be sent to me by him. So that is how I got it. But I do not play and I have been keeping it for years in my room. It just sits there in the case it came in. Which I think is a shame because I am sure that there is someone out there who would enjoy having it more then me. I have done loads of searching in the past month trying to figure out how much to sell it for and the only thing I found was a site where a man had one and said that you would be very lucky to have one and if you are in the market for one you would pay something like £3000 pounds for one. So I thought if I got on here someone who was interested and knew a bit more about it could help me out.

If you won it in 1997 on the radio then it's a "Schecter" since these were made for those kind of competitions before they went on sale on his website...
If you had an "Auerswald" then it'd be A LOT more than £3000...
The only "Auerswald" cloud guitar Prince gave away as a price for a competition was a Black Cloud at one of the Nude Tour concerts in Germany for some MTV competition...

And well, Prince didn't design the guitar...
The guitar was originally a Bass guitar made and designed by David Husain, Prince liked it and ordered a standard guitar version of it...
I bought some of the "Auerswald" versions years ago which were made by Jerry Auerswald, so they were for sale at one time...

Thank you for your matter of fact answers, you have helped. I do appreciate your knowledge of Prince unlike me not being a fan like you. I listen to his music but it does not go any further then that.

just wanted to say something positive about the cloud you own.
I wanted a cloud for years and settled for the ...and I QUOTE "that shitty "Schecter" clone
I paid a lot more than $300.....£'s and £'s more, and my schecter sounds great.

I'm sure that you will find a buyer that will pay you a good price stick a reserve on it to what its worth to you.

Thank you Wingnut. I did not take much notice to what he said. Because I know it is worth more then that I did have it appraised when I first won it and it was worth over four times that. As for the way it plays I have had one person play it for me and it is breath taken to hear, it sings unlike anything I had ever heard before so yes I agree it is much more then what that person said it was. wink

Have it appraised by someone who knows what the fuck he's talking about...
Schecter is shit, always has been and always will be...
That guitar was just an easy way to make money off of collectors and Prince fans, it's an extremely cheap made guitar that was made to hang on a wall and look nice and sold for an extremely hefty price...
And just because it sounds nice doesn't mean it's worth much, Prince plays a $200 Hohner, catch my drift?

So I don't get what is so shitty about it...if it sounds good. And actually I know Schecter to make good guitars. maybe not top quality, but they have a good name for themselves.
The fact that you have a better version, doesn't make this one shitty.
And for the price - it sells on NPG for $1,500. although the one on the website is without the symbol fret marks.

That's not the reason I (and a whole lot of people who bought the thing) think it's shitty...
I think it's shitty because it's cheap looking (most of 'em have a bent neck, the trademark of cheaply made guitars) the paint chips off in a whim, cheap hardware and it doesn't even remotely sound like a real cloud (well that's stating the obvious, but still...)
So $1500 for a shitty wall ornament that isn't worth more than $300 is a huge rip off...

Neversin that is a funny name to call yourself (One who uses bad words all the time)... Since I signed up and joined this site you have not once said anything nice to me. I am not attacking you and I would appriciate it if you will not respond to me or anyone else in here with that tone. We all get the fact that you think ill of the Schecter company and their guitars but maybe you should tell Prince and his manager who supply these guitars to his fans as prizes. He must not think that way because if he did he would not have anything to do with the company. I hope you find peace in that mouth of yours.

Sincerely,
Fantasy sad

Seems pretty nice from my point of view...

Don't know what the fuck you're babbling about... I just gave some answers and I didn't use some "tone"...

More than enough people have done that, and more than enough people returned their guitars with that message...

I went to the opening of the NPG store in Camden, London in the early nineties (second person in) and they were selling yellow cloud guitar's for £3500 (his colour of choice at the time). I'm not sure who was making them but they were obviously officially sanctioned by Prince. Any ideas??? biggrin

Hi Fantasy, The cloud guitar is not the best made guitar in the world and dose not sound that good but it looks the part on stage. And if you conpair it to prince's it's very different the wood, pic ups ,hardware and the shape is not the same they basically use all cheep parts to put this guitar together so to a guitarist its not worth more then £400.00. The reson i say all this is because I have 2 shecters and 1 custom that was built for me 10 years ago. If you want a quek sale i could give you an offer if not the best playes is to put it on ebay.

Firstly, a Shecter Cloud would sell for somewhere around $800 if it's the thru-neck model.
Slightly less for the bolt on but you could be lucky.

The Shecter can me made into a decent guitar with a little work and a little money spent. I'm a guitar tech so I know what I am talking about...

Secondly, Jerry Auerswald didn't make the Cloud guitar. The original guitar was made by Dave Rusan in Minneapolis. Jerry Auerswald made the Model 'C' guitar and the original Symbol guitar. Subsequent Symbols have been made by Prince's own guitar techs and more recently, the American wing of Shecter Guitar Research. Your Cloud was made in Korea.

Prince doesn't still have the original white 'Purple Rain' Cloud. It was smashed up the last time The Revolution played together.

These were made by Prince's guitar tech at the time, Zeke Clarke and a luthier named Andy Beach and were strictly limited. Each one came with a signed certificate of authenticity. They were available in blue & yellow and were only on sale at the NPG shops in London and MPLS.

Some of them made their way to various museums and also Hard Rock Cafe's (ie the one on in London).

Hope this helps!

I don't think it is on display... I've been inside 'the park' and seen all the guitars he does have on display. There was no sign of the original Cloud. I'm sure he still has it though - probably in a box under his bed smile

Back in 1996/1997 he had it on display at the "entrance" of his vault, snapped neck and full of dents, I figured it's still there... Pretty cool to see...
