Warrant issued for Courtney Love


LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Troubled rock star Courtney Love got a bench warrant for her 40th birthday when she failed to appear in court Friday for arraignment on an assault charge.

Love was in New York City and was confused about whether she was required to be in the California courtroom, defense lawyer Michael Rosenstein said.

Court Commissioner Dennis E. Mulcahy said there was no excuse for her failure to appear. He said she forfeited her $55,000 bail and he set a new bail of $150,000.

Love, former lead singer of the band Hole, has coast-to-coast legal troubles and has had to reschedule a summer tour to support her new album, "America's Sweetheart."

Last month she was scolded by a judge when she showed up more than five hours late to a Manhattan court for a hearing on charges of assault and reckless endangerment for allegedly hitting a fan with a microphone stand in the East Village in March. She's due back there September 7.

Love was supposed to have been arraigned in Los Angeles on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly attacking a 32-year-old woman with a liquor bottle.

The charge involves an April 25 incident at the home of former manager and ex-boyfriend Jim Barber.

Love, widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, also was charged in two cases stemming from encounters with police on one night last October.

Authorities said cocaine and other opiates were found in Love's system after she was arrested for allegedly trying to break into Barber's home. She pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drug charge and agreed to enter a drug rehabilitation program.

She is also facing a felony case in Beverly Hills Superior Court for alleged illegal possession of prescription painkillers. Love allegedly gave officers a small bag of pills after they responded to a call from her home hours after her initial October arrest.

Yeah, I was expecting it, but it's just getting depressing. I remember a time when Courtney's wrecky behavior was a hoot, like she was someone's wild nutso trash-talkin' aunt or something...ya didn't want to BE her, but it was kinda fun to tear shit up THROUGH her. I admire anyone who can behave poorly and have a wild, irreverent wit on top of it, and she seemed to embody those traits for a while, and for that I really really adored the crazy hag.

Now it just seems like she's given up - given up on her music, given up on her image, given up on her kid, given up on everything. Maybe this is what Kurt was afraid of becoming, I dunno.

I'd love to see C.Lo come out on the other side of all this mess and rip through a hilARiously profane Dorothy Parker-esque rant on hitting the bottom of the bottom, but in all honesty I'll be really pleased to see just her live through the end of the year.

Courtney needs a baby sitter....preferably one who won't be an enabler...

Courtney Love Rushed To Hospital
Singer's Injuries Not Life Threatening

LOS ANGELES -- Courtney Love was rushed to a hospital in New York City Friday, the same day a warrant was issued for her arrest, according to NBC4.

Emergency crews were called to the singer's Manhattan apartment at 2:15 p.m. Pacific time.

Love was taken to Bellevue Hospital, according to NBC4.

Information about what Love is being treated for was unknown, but Love was conscious when she arrived at the hospital and her injuries are not life threatening.

Love's hospitalization came on the same day the singer failed to make am appearance in a Los Angeles courtroom. The star, who turned 40 Friday, was scheduled to face charges for allegedly attacking a woman with a bottle in April.

Because Love did not show up for court, a judge issued a bench warrant for her arrest and increased her bail from $55,000 to $150,000.

SO first they say she was "confused", then they say she was rushed to the hospital?

oh, Courtney.

I really wish Courtney would get her stuff together. She's gone beyond tragic mess and has become a cliche punchline. How can you even defend somebody's actions when they're this bad off? It sorta seems that she's beyond help these days. Very sad, really, cuz when she's "with it" she's a brilliant performer. And her interview with Carrie Fisher on Lifetime TV (yeah, I watch that fuckin' channel...television for women and Dan apparently) a few years back was one of the most revealing and interesting I've seen with a celebrity.

whatever. just because she's rich doesn't mean she isn't a loser. i don't think any higher of her than i do of those punk squatter kids (with their dogs) who sit on the corner and ask for change.

How bad will she crash before anyone intervines? Will she end up like Janis Joplin or Wendy O' Williams? Frances Bean is going to need all of that Nirvana money and whatever Courtney earned with her shit to just get through with life. I don't want to be the one to start counting the days until.....

In her recent 'Rolling Stone' interview, I think she basically said (or implied) that she would kill herself if it wasn't for her daughter; that she's the only reason she's sticking around.
NOT a good way to live. She needs help & she needs it fast.

Yeah, that too, I guess. I would have said an intervention, but a lot of addicts become real defensive and rebel even more when there's an intervention on their behalf. But what the hey, she's an addict, and if she has any real friends around they'll try and help...the thing is, the addict has to WANT help in order to come out of that hell hole before it's too late.

I just read a blurb on Yahoo that she was hospitalized for a gynecological matter shortly after the warrant was issued... What the fuck is wrong w/ yo' cat when you gotta be hospitalized for it The article was sure to mention it wasn't drug related - I'd sooner be in rehab than a hospital bed for my personals...

Hope she didn't miscarry or anything like that
