Bowie ill, canceling shows

Here's the latest from Bowie's web site. Apparently he's suffering from a trapped nerve in his shoulder, and his condition is getting worse:

It is with much regret that we have to announce another cancellation due to David's continued condition. The situation is reviewed daily and David's doctor has decided that the performance at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark on Friday can not now go ahead.

We are obviously very sorry for any hardship caused to those of you that had already arranged travel, etc., and while we understand your disappointment, it's clear from your sympathetic messages that you do understand it would be self-defeating for David to perform again before he is 100% fit.

We are also sorry to have to report that, being a festival show, refunds for this cancellation will not be available.

We will continue to give you news of any further developments as we get them.

that's pretty harsh...too bad, really...though my lord, the man certainly played enough dates. i just feel bad for the folks who didn't get a chance to see him....although there IS supposed to be a "reality live" DVD coming out this fall...not the same, i know, but still something cool to look forward to. smile

David Bowie Cancels Tour Due To Shoulder Injury

06.30.2004 12:19 PM EDT

It's been a rough month for David Bowie.

After being hit in the eye with a lollipop (see "Lollypalooza: Lollipop In The Eye Stops Bowie Show") and later injuring his shoulder, the singer has canceled the remaining dates of his European tour.

According to Bowie's Web site, the singer was advised by his doctors to cancel the rest of his trek due to "the unpredictable nature of the condition."

Bowie has been suffering from a "trapped/pinched nerve" in his shoulder, and was forced to cut short a concert in Prague, Czech Republic, on June 23 due to the pain.

Doctors advised him to scrap the remainder of his tour to prevent possible further injury and, "in an effort to give fans as much warning as possible ... David very reluctantly agreed to take the advice," the statement said. "David, and everybody involved with the tour, is very sorry for the hardship that this difficult decision may have caused."

No word yet on how tickets for the canceled dates will be refunded, or whether Bowie plans to reschedule the shows.

On Tuesday, Bowie canceled his performance at Denmark's Roskilde Festival. Slipknot will take his place at the annual concert.
