Isley Brothers - "Taken to the Next Phase" remix cd

from Billboard

Edited By Jonathan Cohen. June 24, 2004, 12:00 AM ET

Top Acts Help 'Reconstruct' Isley Brothers

Mos Def, Raphael Saadiq and members of the Roots, Black Eyed Peas and De La Soul are among the acts featured on the Isley Brothers remix project "Taken to the Next Phase (Reconstructions)," due Aug. 10 via Sony Urban/Legacy. A four-track 12-inch vinyl single featuring "Take Me to the Next Phase," "Between the Sheets," "Summer Breeze" and "That Lady" will arrive at clubs imminently.

Although some tracks are straight remixes, other feature new elements. Black Eyed Peas leader will.i.am reconfigures "Tell of Tales (Tell Me When You Need It Again)" with his own rapping and singing, while Mos Def nearly made a separate song out of the Isleys' 1978 original "Beauty in the Dark (Groove With You)."

D-Nat and ONDA team up on "It's a New Thing," which features all-new verses from De La Soul. Saadiq pairs with Kelvin Wooten, who played keyboards on the Isleys' 2001 album "Eternal," to remake 1976's "Harvest for the World," while Roots drummer Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson tackles the classic "That Lady (Part 1 & 2)."

Other tracks set for "Taken to the Next Phase" include "Tonight Is the Night" by Sade collaborator Stuart Matthewman and "Footsteps in the Dark" by San Francisco producer Gabriel Rene.

As previously reported, the Isleys recently signed a new deal with Def Soul Classics, which will release the group's next album in the first quarter of 2005. The duo will be honored June 29 with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards.

Here is the track list for "Taken to the Next Phase":
