Are Soul music and Rock and Roll as we knew it dead? There are really no new "soul" music singers/groups around...i mean like the Stylistics, Spinners, New Birth..etc. Nor is there anybody really around to carry the rock and roll torch. Are they really gone or are they just dormant right now, waiting for a resurgence. you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

If R& B radio would expand it's playlist, music would be a lot better off.
Right now all that is played is Usher, Beyonce, and Alicia. The talent is out there, but it's not played. Rock is in a much healthier place.

Are you experienced? Well, .. I am. Jimi Hendrix SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

The White Stripes sound like rock & roll to me.
But I haven't heard much else lately. As for soul, for a while it seemed good, with D'Angelo, Macy Gray, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Angie Stone. But I haven't heard from any of them in a while. So your question is unfortunately valid. Maybe dead like jazz, blues, or classical. Check this song out at:

well soul music will never die as long as we still have old cds, 8 tracks, 45's and cassette tapes of them. also old school stations are very popular and play this music everyday.
i can see what u are saying, there isn't really any group out here now that can hold the pipes compared to the dells...everytime i hear "stay in my corner" it gives me that deep feeling inside. as for rock and roll, to me the hives remind me 2 much of the rolling stones. i can't help trying to figure out if they are sincere or are they just giving their best mick jagger impression.... I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I pretty much agree with what people are saying. Both musics are on life support. We just have to wait to see if they can wake up.

So your question is unfortunately valid. Maybe dead like jazz, blues, or classical. First, to answer the question. Yes. I think the question was correctly phrased in the past tense. As we knew it, it will never return again. That doesn't mean the genres are dead. As for Rock music, a lot of folks talk about bands like the White Stripes, Wilco, Radiohead, etc., so it's still viable. As for soul music, I agree with procrastination101 and andyman91. If you listen to the radio, you'd believe R&B was a wasteland. But Me'Shell Ndegeocello alone would keep it alive. Factor in newer acts like Amp Fiddler, Dwele, Donnie, Remy Shand, Rhian Benson, Amel Larrieux, and vivian green, and the lesser-known Ledisi, and the "neo-soul" staples Maxwell, D'Angelo, Badu, Jill Scott, and Musiq, and you've got a good future for soul music. It might not be like it was in the 70's, but hey, it's good for its time, which is enough. its not dead but we dont get to hear many good artists because of record companys and managers a prime example of this attitude is that arse who manages westlife & tv show bands
"its only 10% talent and 90% image" " you measure sucess by how much money they earn" these are the enemys of real music commercial gain above all else

How many times can they fill me with lies And I listen, again Twisting the truth And they're playin' around with my head O.K. The things they will do And the things they will say When they don't really understand Tears fill my eyes when I hear all the cries For the reason today And they don't really know Even what they're talkin' about And I can't imagine what empty heads can achieve. Leave me alone Don't want your promises no more 'Cause rock'n'roll is my religion and my law Won't ever change, May think it's strange You can't kill rock'n'roll It's here to stay. Looking through eyes of time Mirrors reflecting their stories untrue Promises promises, Telling me all of my glories overdue. How many times have I heard it before And I'll probably hear it again King of a thousand knights, Pawn in a table fight Losing to you. And they don't really know Even what they're talkin' about And I can't imagine what empty heads can achieve. Leave me alone Don't want your promises no more 'Cause rock'n'roll is my religion and my law Won't ever change, May think it's strange You can't kill rock'n'roll it's here to stay. Even the rhymes that they give me in times of confession ain't true Outcome is obvious All for them none for us meaning you too The things they will do And the things they will say When they don't really understand Fear of rejection I need their protection I'm making a stand And they don't really know Even what they're talkin' about And I can't imagine what empty heads can achieve. Leave me alone Don't want your promises no more 'Cause rock'n'roll is my religion and my law Won't ever change, May think it's strange You can't kill rock'n'roll it's here to stay Leave me alone Don't want your promises no more 'Cause rock'n'roll is my religion and my law Won't ever change, May think it's strange You can't kill rock'n'roll it's here to stay

My friend went on another board on the net and someone was talking about wanting to buy a particular CD by Miles Davis. and someone responded that if he came in his hood talking about Miles Davis, he would get a beatdown thats the musical climate that we are living in..Miles Davis is out but Petey Pablo is in...WTF have we come to?
