New Artist - JAGUAR WRIGHT??? I don't know if anyone else has posted this yet, but I was at Best Buy last night and heard this groove playing throughout the store. I was over by the videos and couldn't really hear who was singing but I could tell that a Linn drum machine was layin down the track (is that SICK or what??). I could be wrong but it sure has hell sounded like one.....
Anyway, I went over to one of the guys working by the album racks and asked him who they were playing. He said it was "Jaguar Wright." Apparently, she was down with the Roots and has recently released a solo album. The cut I heard was called "I Can't Wait" featuring Bilal. I couldn't place which Prince was song was sampled (if any), but it sorta sounded like the turnaround from Dorothy Parker, though not entirely... The song is pretty good, she's kinda got a Erykah Badu/Jill Scott vibe goin on there. Maybe I'm just a sick f**k and am way off here, but you can download it using your favorite file sharing tool (WinMX for me) and judge for yourself. Check it out and let me know what you think! PEACE, and see you all in June!

I bought that cd at Best Buy when it was on sale for $6.99. She's got some nice stuff. She caught my eye when she did background for Jay-Z during his MTV Unplugged session. That track with Bilal is definitely Prince influenced. I would say her cd is a worthy buy.

Yeaup butterscotchcurlyhair hit it on the head! That Philly Sound is putting out a lot of people. I would say Philly is putting the Soul back into Soul Music for the 21st Century as they did in the 20th Century!
The album at Tower was only $9.99 and they had it in their listening station. The cut with Bilal definitely has a Prince sound to it. It sounds like they used or sampled the Linn Drum machine. Not a bad album for her first. Peace!
