THE BET AWARDS

I figured instead of 20 threads about the show, we can just have one official one. Its a LOT of ground to cover, like:

Monique's performance at the beginning
The Isley Bros.
The old skool rap tribute
Alicia Keys on acoustic guitar
Jay Z, Sheila E, Kid Rock and Dave Navarro? Whut?!
Janet's performance
Usher's performance
Vivica's dress eyepop
Rick & Teena
Outkast's performance
Halle not showing up and STILL getting a best actress award. hmmm
Bob Johnson's arrogant jackass speech
The aftershow with Jacque Reid and her "friends" omg shocked nuts eyepop
...and much more! Get it started!

Alicia was great!
Monique was very funny.
The old school rap tribute was very good.
Janet sucked
Outkast were good

The rest of the show and performances were just ok.

janet...sucked

outkast...boring

alicia and india...VERY good

Jay-z...could have been better...but cool seeing Sheila E

The hip hop Tribute....I was hyped!!!

Usher....not bad, not bad....

Isleys....just get respect for being around for 40+ years..

and I just wanna say...the Big gurls did the damn thing...

Why does Rick dress up like Prince and yet hates him so much.....Teena looked like a stank hoe and sounded awful...but her cd is still the shit.

Speaking of OutKast, did anyone else notice Andre's split towards the end of "Roses?" He still had a few more inches to go off the ground before he could get to where Prince was, but it was still pretty good. clapping I never expected it! thumbs up!

Ok, so last night I was checkin' out the annual BET Awards to see if it was worth my time. Actually this was one of the better award shows I've seen in awhile. Unlike that Motown 45 JUNK that was on a few months ago, this one was worth watching at least a couple times.

Here are some highlights and lowlights.

HIGHLIGHTS

The opening number was comedian Mo'nique with 6 other BIG girls doing the dance number from Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" video. Complete with Booty Dance, so you know I was loving those big girls shakin' all that azz around. My girl was wathcing with me so I had to contain myself.

Kanye West did his thing with "Jesus Walks" his surprise guest was gospel great Yolanda Adams.

Jay Z performed 99 Problems with his backing band of Dave Navarro, Kid Rock, Shiela E, and The Legendary Roots Crew.

The tribute to the 25 years Hip Hop has been on wax. Featured performers was, The Sugar Hill Gang, Melle Mel, MC Lyte, Public Enemy, and closing it out was Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh.

Alicia Keys performance.

The Isley Brothers were honored and they tore it up. I like how they gave props to Hip Hop because as the intro to "Between the Sheets" played, they also fused in Biggies "Big Poppa".

Quite possibly the highlight of the show for me was when Rick James and Teena Marie performed "Fire and Desire" together. Now don't get me wrong, Rick sounded like KFS(Kentucky Fried Shit), but it was good to see them on the same stage again, but what really tore the house down is when after they sung, they also presented an award. Just as they was about to cut to a commercial, Rick came back out and said something like "I just wanna say this before I go. To the girl backstage who don't know what it really is.....I'm RICK JAMES BITCH!!!!!"

The whole place erupted. Man, that was sooo perfect when he did that.

LOWLIGHTS

OUTKAST didn't really represent last night and their set was lackluster at best. The crowd wasn't really feeling it if you ask me.

JANET JACKSON also didn't do anything for me. Maybe it was that song she did.

USHER was a huge dissapointment to me. He had his dance moves on point, but that seemed to be his main focus as he got tired to sing at times, but they filled it in nicely with his voice on a track. If you really don't know live music, you couldn't tell, but I knew right from the jump.

When G-Unit was on stage, I wanted them to show Vivica Fox watching, just so I can see the digusted look on her face, but they didn't do it.

Now back to the opening number, DAYUM!!!!!

Is the Chicken ready yet baby?
Life my azz muthafucka, dis is a bitness!!

that split was fantastic!!!! It was the only highlight of their otherwise lackluster performance, though....I mean...if JayZ can use a real band, why can't OutKast? Their records are more creative than his are. More instrumentation.

n101

The show wasn't as good as it was last year.

The audience was a bit lackluster.

Kanye, The Isley Bros., and the hip-hop tribute were fantastic to watch.

I love Outkast, but they were boring.

Janet....she just needs to do something new.

Usher....needs to stop being baby MJ. Plus, stop dancing and focus on the singing. He was so off key last night.

I agree..especially with the live band comment, but I honestly believe Dre and Big are "over" the album now, so to speak.

It's been almost a year after it's release and they're probably just more interested in focusing on other things (their new album, movies, etc). Plus the fact, we all know that Dre has expressed him not wanting to tour for this album, so I'm sure when he performs on stage now, it's just like a "let me goin' head and get this out the way"-type of thing. lol

I'm just glad they went right into Big's verse and didn't break in with that stupid skit of yelling "Speakerboxx!!!"/"The Love Below!!!"

I thought usher was better than Janet. I'd rather hear someone trying to sing while they are dancing vs a track through the entire set.
