Dylan is the MASTER!!

Honorary Degree Makes Singer 'Dr. Dylan'
Jun 23, 11:18 AM EST

The Associated Press

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland -- Bob Dylan accepted an honorary doctor of music degree Wednesday from Scotland's oldest university. He was speechless, but a professor at the University of St. Andrews sang his praises.

"Many members of my generation can't separate a sense of our own identity from his music and lyrics," professor of English Neil Corcoran said in an awe-struck address.

Dylan's fusion of folk, blues, country, rock and poetry, Corcoran said, "moved everything on to a place it never expected to go and left the deepest imprint on human consciousness."

"His magnificent songs will last as long as song itself does," he added.

Founded in 1413, St.

Andrews, northeast of Edinburgh, is Britain's third-oldest university and one of its most prestigious. Its current students include Prince William, second in line to the throne.

The university also awarded honorary degrees to Harvard philosopher Hilary Putnam and Cheryll Tickle, one of Britain's leading biologists, along with degrees for 180 graduating students.

Dylan has accepted only one other honorary degree, from Princeton University in 1970.

Bob is a master songwriter. Every so-called songwriter should have to take a course on Bob Dylan. If they did, then maybe there would be better written songs these days instead of everyone sampling other peoples shit cause they don't know how to write a decent song.

Many people don't care for his voice and I understand that. It took me a few years to truly appreciate the passion with which he sings. He writes the most poignant lyrics and knows how to make a grown man cry. I'm certain that Bob will go down in history as one of the greatest lyricists ever.

Bob Dylan is maybe the most real singer out there.
He is concerned with the meaning of the words more than the pretty melody. And for him that works.
I can't quite imagine him singing Sam Cooke though!
Maybe the other way around (if Sam was still around)
The first time I heard him was USA for Africa, and I couldn't believe that it wasn't a joke. At the time I probably thought Huey Lewis was great.
It took me a while, but now his voice doesn't sound weird to me at all.

He is a genius no doubt about it.

It was funny though, how he almost fell asleep during the ceremony.
