MORE BOUNCE TO THE OUNCE/CONTROVERSY I THINK "MORE BOUNCE TO THE OUNCE" IS ONE OF THE FUNKIEST SONGS EVER RECORDED BY ANYONE. "CONTROVERSY" IS MY ALLTIME FAVE SONG BY PRINCE FOLLOWED BY 'LADY CAB DRIVER". AS FAR AS FUNK GOES COMPARED TO "MORE BOUNCE TO THE OUNCE" HOW WOULD, IN YOUR OPIONION, "CONTROVERSY" AND "LADY CAB DRIVER" HOLD UP? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Lady Cab Driver IS one of the funkiest things P has done, if not THE funkiest. That's why I listed it. I don't think it's funkier than "More Bounce" though. "Lady Cab" definately has more going on in the song. The rock breakdown part in the song is one of the coldest things I have ever heard by anyone. But it's a different kind of funk. "More Bounce" just grabs a hold of that groove and never lets up. Much in the same way as James Brown. Roger's rythmn guitar is so wicked and in the pocket, that he even fucks around with the lick and is still in pocket. Prince's rythmn is tight as hell on "Lady Cab" also.  "More Bounce" is definitely in the Funk Hall Of Fame!!
...and that rhythm guitar is tighter than a gnat's ass!! Lady Cab Driver is pretty close, though( IMO, LCD, Let's Work and 777-9311 are 3 of Prince's tightest Funk workouts... Zapp's 'More Bounce To The Ounce' is much more funkier than 'Controversy' IMO, although 'Controversry' is IMO one of Prince's best funk trax. Roger and Zapp made some great funk and R&B trax and ballads too. I would say 'Dancefloor' is one of Zapp's best funk/R&B trax and I'd also include the following which IMO r also great examples of Roger and Zapp's music:
Funky Bounce I Heard It Through The Grapevine So Ruff, So Tuff I Can Make You Dance Heartbreaker Doesn't Really Matter amongst others Roger & Zapp r my fave band and they made such great music and Roger Troutman was a fantastic musician, he could play saxophone, harmonica, keyboards, drums, guitar and also pioneered the usage of the 'Talkbox' which can still b heard on Rap/Dance and R&B trax 2day. Prince IMO, made his funkiest music in the early 1980's, espically with 'The Time' so I'd say Prince's songs he wrote 4 Morris & The Time r very cool funky trax of which trax like 'Get It Up', 'Cool' and '777-9311' r comparable 2 Roger and Zapp's best songs but IMO, Roger & Zapp were an awesome band and Roger's music, like Prince's is still being sampled 2day. | |
