soft rock song of the day, Gilbert O' Sullivan's, Alone again (Naturally) Anyone remember this song? This is what I call comfort food music--music that sounds good and makes you feel good. Not great art, but healing, even in a superficial way. This is just a well written little tune, with a sweet vocal. Sure, it is shmaltzy, but it just sounds so nice. A good song to calm down any violent tendency. lol. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I always liked this, but the lyrics are very sad...
But Yeah, this and his other hit, "Clair"... [This message was edited Tue Jun 22 14:53:25 2004 by paligap] " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

This is the song that Biz Markie sampled without permission, and when Gilbert sued him, the song got pulled and it changed copyright law forever.
Hey I like this song, Finess!

I was talking to a friend the other day about how 70s songs had melody ,something that you don't always find in today's music.I mean, just listen to a song like "Alone Again (Naturally)" or "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters....these are beautifully arranged songs produced by people who actually know a thing or two about composing songs.Listen to the lyrics, the chord changes, the lush instrumentation of many 70s songs...it just blows my mind.
When she passed away,I cried and cried all day Alone again...naturally

I agree with you on the chord changes, DavidEye... you can literally see this if you look at sheet music of recent (pop radio) songs and look at how static the chord movement is, or how many songs say "N.C." ie. No Chord ! (I think I saw that for "Ain't It Funny (Remix)" by J.Lo.)
I think there are still a few songs that still are written with melody and changes that get on radio if you keep your ears open ("White Flag" by Dido) but it is probably ya local "lite" station.
