No JB, no funk - discuss!
But seriously, they're all great - who can say. Clinton rules, Sly - wow, JB - the godfather. Prince is kinda funky too.

Probably "no funk" as we know it today. But seriously, they're all great.
I agree. 1.James Brown: The "Godfather" architect 2.Sly Stone: The "Smart Brother" alchemist 3.George Clinton: The "Crazy Uncle Jam" existentialist 4.Prince: The "Cerebral Canonist Cousin " pluralist tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm [This message was edited Sat Jun 19 16:05:59 2004 by theAudience] "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. Sorry old old old schoolers, for me is Clinton. i mean what woudl be funkier than that? Who the "King" is is a matter of opinion. James Brown kicked it off, and the next two you mentioned brought something different to the buffet table of Funk. You can't go wrong with any of them really. But I think people are remiss for not giving the PFunk empire the credit they deserve. Clinton is the leader of that crew, but I could never give him 100% of the credit like so many people tend to. The musicians that comprised the PFunk clan are some of the most dismissed (by neglect of mention and solely crediting Clinton) of any Funk band I can think of. But as a whole their impact is legendary, and can't be overstated. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. JB kicked off a genre, Stone and PFunk expanded its possibilities after that. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

All of them!
James started it. Godfather of Soul, Mr. Please Please Please Sly expanded it with rock elements. George kept it alive and created a funk movement with innovativeness.
