LET'S HAVE YOUR TOP 10 GROOVES OF ALL TIME

Mothership Connection - Parliament

Thankyoufallentinmebemiceelf - Sly & the Family Stone

These are the unbelieveably deep grooves that, regardless of lyrics or vocals, are so in the pocket they make you powerless to keep yourself from moving. They are so fat they stir up the deepest recesses of your soul and psyche. What tracks do that for you?

Peace,
Scott

I concur with all those choices, Pali. Sex Machine is the only one I differ on. I like the cut, but not as much as some other JB.

How about these ...

Not Just (Knee Deep) - Funkadelic
Housequake - Prince
Serpentine Fire - Earth, Wind and Fire
Body Heat - James Brown
Glide - Pleasure
Dazz - Brick
Insane - Cameo
Same Song - Digital Underground
Pinnochio Theory - Bootsy
Talkin' Back - Gap Band

Man, that's hard, but blackguitaristz named one or two of mine already:

17 Days -- Prince

Pickup Sticks -- Dave Brubeck Quartet

Thank You For Letting Me Talk To You Africa -- Sly & The Family Stone (that bassline is thug nasty)

Take Five -- Dave Brubeck Quartet

A Different Drum -- Peter Gabriel (y'all never talk about "Passion" in here but it is one of the greatest albums of at least the last 20 years . . .)

I'm The One -- AWB

Maybe Your Baby -- Stevie Wonder

Rockhard In A Funky Place -- Prince

eye No -- Prince

September/Serpentine Fire (take your pick) -- EWF

You are basically correct. It is Never Buy Texas From a Cowboy from the 1979 album of the same name by Dawn Silva and Lyn Mabry, better known as the Brides of Funkenstein. That was their second and last album. First one was Funk or Walk in 1978. There was a live album released in the 1990s as well. Dawn Silva recently released her solo debut, which is decent but includes no P-Funk alum. Lyn Mabry performed with the Talking Heads in the 1980s and is a good friend and business associate (some say more than that) of Sheila E.

Hope that helps. Gotta tell ya though, the only picks of yours besides The Brides that I am feeling are Groove Line, One Nation and Funkin for Jamaica. The other ones are too disco for me.

Peace,
Scott
