So,did anybody pick up those Fleetwood Mac remasters?

I know they came out several months ago,but believe it or not,I haven't been to a record store in a long, long time.I guess I'll pick them up this weekend. But I wanna hear your opinions on them...how are the bonus tracks? The packaging? The sound quality? Are there detailed liner notes?

Btw,only these three albums were remastered, right?

'Fleetwood Mac' (1975)
'Rumours' (1977)
'Tusk' (1979)

Are there any plans to remaster any other albums?

The bonus tracks are okay if you like to hear work in progress but they're not essential listening and I've not played them more than two or three times.

The packaging is excellent. Extensive liner notes, original album artwork and additional pics.

And the sound quality is freakin' awesome. headbang

Apparantly there are more re-issues to follow but there are no set dates yet. Hopefully Mirage and Tango In The Night will emerge soon. A remastered version of their 1980 live album would be pretty cool, too. smile

davideye...these remasters are incredible! the sound quality is just unbelievable...i swear, there is instrumentation that i've never heard before! personally, i think the tusk remaster is the best...but tusk has always been my favorite fleetwood mac album. the alternate versions of beautiful child and sister of the moon are great! beautiful child has this extra guitar riff at the chorus that just makes the song so much more intense. it really does change theentire feel of the song, yet it is ALMOST the same as the originally released version...very subtle. on the rumours disc, there are a lot of instrumentaal versions of songs, which i like. i don't listen to the extra disc as often as with tusk but i still listen to it semi-regularly. i like the scratchiness of the demo and i love listening to lindsey's guitar. the self titled disc has the fewest additions but is worth it for sound quality alone. if you are a fan of the band, you'll enjoy the liner notes and little details about each record...they are pretty extensive, but i don't know how much you already know about the band's history. anyway, you should get these!

My only complaint is when the people who write the liner notes don't know what they're talking about. In the Tusk booklet it says that the album reached no.8 on billboard but it actually peaked at no.4. I think there's a couple of other errors, too.

Still, you can't have everything. Although I would very much like to. smile

Yeah, I caught that too. Maybe it was the typesetter's fault, though, who knows?

I like the Tusk remaster the best, I think, although I'm probably biased because I think it's such an incredible record (even moreso than Rumours or FM). I'm really glad they included the oft-bootlegged "cleaning lady" version of "Sara" (but why not the single version that was on the old disc?; guess a lot of people hate that it ruins the slow-build of the song). Stevie's voice was probably at its most beautiful on Tusk - I wish she'd had more opportunity to sing lead, though, because the drugs and fast lifestyle started to catch up with her soon after that, and the clarity and vulnerability evaporated.

nod I hope they dont skip that one.The current CD version is horribly lo-fi.It has some great performances on it and a few songs that aren't available elsewhere.

Some are just works-in-progress,but many are quite interesting. In fact in some cases, the vocal is the same as the released version, but with completely different music.( like Prince:Dark/So Dark). There are also a few songs that didnt make the albums.A couple of which Stevie Nicks later rerecorded for her solo discs.

While yer at it, pick up Fleetwood Mac:Live in Boston(2DVD/1CD), out this week!

Will do! Is this DVD from their current tour? I was watching VH-1 yesterday, and they showed a really cool performance of "Rhiannon",which I assume is from the current tour, and probably from that DVD you mentioned.Stevie and Lindsey have such chemistry onstage together.

Yes , its from the "Say You Will" Tour. The show is split over 2 DVDs and comes with a 10 track CD of highlights.Personally, I would have preferred a double CD of the complete audio, with the visual on 1 DVD , but nobody asked me...

It's a great show...24 songs, including a few that they dont do too often:

Second Hand News
Beautiful Child
Eyes Of The World

Look for it in the CD section as it is in a CD sized digipak and not your standard DVD case.

As for the chemistry...Yes, they've come a long way.Stevie's great as usual, tho she seems to aviod the higher notes.Lindsey is as loony as ever ,but genuinely seems to have buried all his hatchets and looks like he's really having fun.Too bad about all those wasted years in between.

Somebody help me out here: there's a blazing version of "Oh Well" with Lindsey on guitar, it's a live version, and the sound is pretty darn good. I've heard it for YEARS now, but never knew if it was from an official disc on the market, or a bootleg. Does anybody know?

The only official version with Lindsey on guitar and vocal that I know of is on" Fleetwood Mac Live" (1980).It ROCKS and is one of the main reasons I hope that album will be remastered whenever they get to "Mirage" and "Tango".

I have a boot that has Lindsey doing Bob Welch's "Hypnotized" and Danny Kirwan's "Station Man".These are from the first tour (1975).Ive heard that he also performed Peter Green's "The Green Manalishi" from time to time.Ive also heard that he hated doing these songs.

Cool. I need to look for it, cuz I don't know that I've ever seen that live album.

Interesting. I wonder if he liked playing "Oh Well" live, because he sure wasn't mailing it in on that 1980 live version.

It's an excellent album. It's not just a show, but a collection of live performances from the "Rumours" & "Tusk" tours(with alot of post-production).Like "Oh Well", there are a few other songs which are exclusive to that album. If there are plans to remaster the rest of thier catalog, you may want to wait and see if this one is part of the next round. The currently available one is pretty lo-fi.
