Xmal Deutschland - 80s German goth at its best.

I just thought of two more:

Horrorpops - Female fronted psychobilly (mild) from Denmark.

Lacuna Coil - Italian goth-metal. Like what Evanescence would sound like if they were actually good.

Sorry, I know you really wanted unknowns, but Radiohead is my favorite european band
Less known I suppose is Badly Drawn Boy
"Have You Fed the Fish?" is a great album.

I'm really big into:

The Legendary Pink Dots (I guess they're from the Netherlands).
Sigur Ros (Iceland)
Attrition (think they're British)
Vaartina (Finland I believe)
Matthew Herbert
Siouxsie & The Banshees/Creatures
Sheep on Drugs
Cocteau Twins
Asthmus Tiechens
Change it one more time..

That would have been my first choice (obviously), but since the Banshees were part of the first Lollapalooza and actually had a top 40 hit in the U.S. at the time, I thought they might be too popular for the thread.

As for Xmal, their 4AD stuff is excellent. When they started to sing in English is when it all went bad.
