what exactly goes Madonna's MAVERICK mean? MA (donna) VER (onica) and what's the ICK?

I didn't realize it was a combination of her names, but if that's the case I assume that her surname Ciccone was added, and since that combination is so close to the word maverick she just added the letter k. The ironic thing is that her label is/was not much of a maverick considering they never promoted the truest maverick-like artist on it.
