biggrin That's Bernard Purdie on the original record! Keep on shufflin', "Pretty Purdie"!

I should have known. biggrin I knew it didn't sound like either Gadd or Jeff Porcaro (who also has done session work with Steely Dan).

biggrin Yup! in fact ,Jeff is on that Gaucho album. He and Bernard shift drum duties from song to song...

Yeah, its funny, we've grown up listening to that Jay Graydon solo all these years, and it's sounds weird when you hear other guitarist's attempts - they just sound wrong...I would love to hear all of them, like you said, with the names of each guitarist! lol

I know people like Larry Carlton and Steve Khan attempted it! I wanna hear their versions....

Isn't Money Don't Matter Tonight the sign of Steely Dan's influence on Prince's music?

I always thought it had a Steely slant to it! wink

I thought "Do U Lie" had a nice SD feel to it.

I love "Chain Lightning", "Dr. Wu" and the live version of "Sign In Stranger"

Gaslighting Abbey is cool, too. I saw a website that listed a bunch of explanations for some of the phrases that SD uses in their songs. The link is on the www.steelydan.com site.

Ah, The 'Dan now you're talkin'

My favorite track is 'My Old School'

mainly because of Jeff Skunk Baxters guitar breaks! worship

But there's no album of their's I couldn't recommend.

And The Nightfly!!! That album is the best album the 'Dan never

released. Awesome.

I love Steely Dan. Talk about real music by real musicians.
In fact, my girlfriend always says "Hey, Steely Dan!" when she hears "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise"

Kid Charlemagne
Bodhisatva
Aja
My Old School
Any Major Dude

are some of my favorites.
