Amp Fiddler - WALTZ OF A GHETTO FLY

Amp's a PFunk keyboardist from back in the late 80s adnI even thinkhe's done some work with Prince. Last recorded thing was from the 90s called WITH RESPECT ( a pretty cool yet obscure PFUNK gem).

Well, anyways he was in LA this weekend and I caught his show out at the TEMPLE BAR last night and the freebie show over at AMOEBA this afternoon. He played tunes from his latest album WALTZ OF A GHETTO FLY

which is best described as "music Sly Stone would be doing if hadn't been quite so fond of drugs be MIXMAG".

He brought his wonderfully tight band of 2 key boards, drums, bass and 2 fine fem vocalists for two gigs over this weekend. The songs are uniquely crafted and full of positivity to and echoing jazz and funk textures (one tune echoed Jon Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" chant). Always a Funkadelic, Amp dropped some teases of "Free Your Mind" and gave up a full chorus of "I Got A Thing".

Things were probaly happening a lot more a over at Staples and HOB, but I kind got blocked out of my plans to it HOB's late shows. This was a greatly funktastic time. I got to hang with a folks in LA's funk underground. I copped the disc off Amp at the in-store gig and strongly recommend it to those looking for new funk. So cop it and holla if you like it (I can't stop you if you're gonna bag on it, though i wish you'd keep it to yoursel fif you don't like it).

Oh yeah I was stylin' an old Jam Of The Year "symbol" tee and that got folks to chat me up about the concerts (which I haven't seen yet). sad

I've been meaning to pick this up. There are too many of my favorite people involved with this album not to own it.
