Isley Brothers "SHOUT"

Could this be one of the 1st funk records ever?

I've been to the soul patrol site and they have an intresting essay about this song.

But everytime I hear it, I hear an ode to Jackie Wilson.

I sho miss the fire in their music sigh

LOL its not really that he had a "nerve" becoz its true, as crazt as it is lol

Most white folks don't know about the RnB world and if they do then it ain't much, its like they're living on the other side of the world. Most of them didn't even know about Jackie Wilson untill he got hospitalized back in 1975 when some TV channel made a bio-segment about his career and then they conclude it as "This is the white Elvis" when the brotha started WAAAAAY b4 Elvis did.

Its a different subject, but the same matter basicaly. So, I wasn't suppriced about Mr.Bolton's feeling about them lol

I THINK that Bolton claimed he had never heard an Isley Bros tune, called 'love is a wonderful tthing' or something like that. He had a big hit with a tune of the same name and song structure. Isley Bros sued for all royalties from the song. Bolton said the songs were similar but he did not know of the Isleys song before. It was bitter case. Judge ruled for Isleys, Bolton appealed. Isleys eventually won. I THINK the Judge said that Bolton could have heard the song and not REMEMERED it. Bolton is so well know for doing r and b/soul covers it would have been stupid of him to lie about this. I actually believe that he did not REMEMBER the Isleys song. Judge did the right thing anyway. A similar thing happened to George Harrison over,'My Sweet Lord'.

Too often, selective memory is involved. There was a lot of that going on in the 50s & 60s with white artists "covering" black artists' material - without paying them.

True. many black american musicians suffered in the 50s,60s from musicians covering there tunes and not paying them royalties or even worse CLAIMING THEY WROTE THE TUNE!
Eg Led Zep covering the'killing Floor', calling it the lemon song, and claiming they wrote it. Thankfully, Willie Dixon got his songwriting credit and his money. Many did not. This case with Bolton and Isley Bros happened in the 90s. This is why I said that if Bolton knew the song exsisted and copied it, it would have ben REALLY STUPID. The Isleys are a rock and roll insitution. He is so well know for doing covers.
I find it hard to believe he could be that dumb. eek

amen to that my brother...
oh yeah harley it was influenced by the part in lonely teardrops
where jackie sings "say you will"...ronnie,rudy and kelly were doing
lonely teardrops i think at aN apollO SHOW...took the say you will
part to an extended coda and SHOUT came out of it.

those boys were singing GOSPEL ya'all and it was in secular form.
and that's the truth cuz i know WHERE the bros got their START..right
in their mother's church...sally bernice isley...

yep they dedicated all of their albums to her.
they say she was quite a lady.

o'kelly was my boy...
may he rest in peace...

ronnie and ernie still ON the case...

5 decades of soul...

bknight, remember the story behind-lavern baker being mad about white
singers sovering her songs-like tweedle dee and jim dandy?
i think she took somebody to court...she didn't win but she got my ADMIRATIOn.
