I'm an idiot...I just discovered Ani Difranco.

I was in a Barnes and Noble and gave the new Ani CD a listen. (Educated Guess) I picked it up and damn is it good. Very intimate as it's just her. Great lyrics. So then I decided to pick up Evolve and WOW, I'm blown away by it!

Alright, what's next?

Buy one of her live discs. I recommend "Living in Clip" as an introduction to the older songs in a very raw form, but "So much shouting..." features better sound, a better band and a mix of old and new.

Revelling and Reckoning is a must have. Also, To the Teeth features Prince's vocals on a track and is a very solid album.

Some of her best albums:

Out Of Range
Dilate
Little Plastic Castle

funny that you like Evolve so much, it's widely regarded as one of her weaker albums...if you like that you'll wet yourself over the ones I listed.

Definitely. nod

Since you liked Evolve, which I really like too, these are probably the albums you'll like the most. Then I'd get Out Of Range, Little Plastic Castles, Up, up, up... etc. after those. Revelling and Reckoning is still my favorite studio album but Living in Clip is what I play the most.

Exactly.

I have yet to pick up Educated Guess, but I have at least half of her discography, and I challenge anyone to find a more compelling songwriter. Ani's music is worth the time, effort, and money. She's a one woman empire.

Absolutely.... she is incredible. I was lucky enough to see her live again earlier this year in February, she blew me away...

I really can't get enough of her... I adore her, and the way she writes and the passion with which she sings her songs... it just leaves me breathless and in awe.

By the way... if I were you, I would probably just start from the beginning and go from there... her debut album "Ani DiFranco" 1990 is brilliant... it's a great introduction. But no matter where you start, you really can't go wrong. smile The album that introduced me to Ani was "Dilate" , I was sold from the first song... I knew right away that this was an artist I wanted to familiarise my self with instantly. Enjoy..

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Napolean is one of my favorite tunes of all time. I like the Living In Clip version better than the studio version. Her lyrics make me weep with sorrow and admiration. One of a kind.

I picked up Living in Clip. Dialate, and Reveling Reckoning, the later of the 3 was my favorite. But as a whole, her stuff has always been kind of hit or miss with me. Usually there's like a song or two I dig on a given album, and the rest of it kinda grinds on my nerves. Her lyrics tend to veer off with so many different metaphors, that it's easy to forget what the song was about in the first place.
