INTRODUCE ME TO SOME MUSIC.

Hi everyone

I have just been getting some Ani Difranco lately and i am realising that there is a whole bunch of people out there that i just havent listened to before.

Can you people be so kind as to take a couple of minutes and either suggest some bands, people, etc of people i should maybe sit up and take notice of?

For example i have two Ani Difranco albums now; Out of Range & Educated guess.
Is there any other album i should get in full or songs i should definitely have??

or

Steely Dan , since its been on this part of the org previously. Is there a certain album i should get or even a top 10 songs.

Please suggest anyone and any songs.

Educate me.

music any genre. i like all.

thanks so much

First off, Steely Dan is an excellent choice for starters!!!! A couple of good albums are "Aja" and "Pretzel Logic" but any of their "greatest hits" albums would be good too.

Another recommendation (in my opinion) is Todd Rundgren. If you like all different styles of music, just listening to Todd will get you as many as you can think of!!!! He has a new album called "Liars" which is his best work in 15 years! A few other Todd gems are "Something/Anything", "A Wizard A True Star", "Nearly Human", and "2nd Wind". Unfortunately, the last two may be in cutout bins as Todd has always been a maverick and doesn't get all the acclaim of more popular artists. But you get to save money!!! Check out E-Bay and you may find some of his work pretty cheap, and you should not be dissapointed!

If you like Ani Difranco you might like Joni Mitchell or Bob Dylan.

I always like to suggest Tom Waits as someone great who is mostly undiscovered.
His rough singing turns many people off, but his songwriting (both lyrics & melody) is among the best.
Small Change is a great album with great songs, very mellow, mostly piano & strings and singing. Pretty easy to listen to.
Swordfish Trombones is very weird, sounding like nothing else in this world. Not so easy to like on the first listen, but has done nothing but grow on me.

Any Steely Dan collection is worth having, like A Decade of Steely Dan.
