Minnie Riperton's "Memory Lane"

I know the album this song appeared on, Minnie, was her last studio effort before she passed and I can't help but to think that her health may have been suffering on here.

After listening to this song many times, it seems as if her voice wasn't in the best condition. Don't get me wrong, Minnie was still hitting those notes and the song still sounded great, but it just seemed like she was a bit tired on the track. In comparision to her previous albums, Minnie's voice seemed a lot stronger whereas on "Memory Lane" her phrasing seems to be a lot shorter and weaker at times.

Has anyone else noticed this? confuse

Do you recall an album that was released shortly after her death? It's called 'Love Lives Forever' and came out in 1980.She didn't get to finish the tracks, and much of the album was completed after her death. They called up artists like Peabo Bryson,Micheal Jackson and others to add their vocals to songs that weren't originally intended to be duets. One track from this album "Here We Go" with Peabo Bryson became a sizable hit.Very rare and hard to find, but it's an interesting album.

Yeah, Stevie contributed to a song I believe. thumbs up!

Do you feel what I'm saying, though, or is it just me?

smile Yeah, I have that album! It's interesting, although you can hear that the vocals were done posthumously -if you listen closely to "Here we Go", you can sorta hear where they punched in Peabo's vocals...

I used to think I was the only one that sensed that. I remember reading in Jet magazine that she died in Stevie Wonders' arms and that her husband locked himself in a room for a couple of days after she passed.. sad

What's equally sad is how she is so underappreciated. She rarely gets the props she deserves. shrug sigh

Yea, they need to name drop Minnie every single time Mariah hits one of those atmospheric notes!
