The new Teena Marie CD is not all that

I'm sorry but I am not feeling the new Teena Marie CD. I had better expectations for this CD..I thought we were getting the "Portugese Love" Teena not the "hip hop" diva. Even though Teena is not overshadowed by the hip hop influences of Cash Money....you just cant help but wonder where is the "REAL" Teena Marie at. She SANG her face off on this CD but I'm wondering where is Teena Marie at....the OUT ON A LIMB Teena, the CASANOVA BROWN Teena, the DEJA VU Teena. Someone dispose of Hip Hop Teena and get the REAL Teena Marie back!

Try not 2 compare it with her previous releases, that way you'll find it more enjoyable to listen.

Trust me I could settle with this anyday over some neo-soul fool claiming that they got soul in their craft when she already got soul in her MIDDLE FINGER alone more than they got in their whole bodies(excuse my ghetto french, dear).

I agree, DigitalGardin. nod I mean, if the songs didn't have so much of that Rap bulls**t getting in the way, then we'd have some good songs to listen to. Don't get me wrong, the songs are good, but all that Dirty South s**t just gets in the way.

The only songs on this CD that I don't like are "The Macking Game" and "Off The Chain",which are,not surprisingly, the most hip-hop sounding tracks. On the rest of the album, the hip-hop elements are minimal.Make no mistake, this a true Old-School-styled R&B album. You want the old Teena? Listen to songs like "My Body's Hungry","Black Rain","Makaveli Never Lies","I'm Still In Love","A Rose Is Still A Rose"....these songs are as lush and soulful as anything she's done in the past. The more I listen to this CD,the more I become convinced that this is probably her best work.

nod I was sayin the same thing the other day. I was surprise at how well she recaptured her "old" feel on those cuts you mentioned. I was expecting much less knowing the CMC were involved.

U truly cannot judge Teena's vvoice until u see her LIVE. She is absolutley amazing. I have seen her 6 times and she is just getting better with age. I heard the new cd went gold. U GO LADY TEE.Her stage presence is electrifying as Prince's who I have seen 19 times. They are both TRUE artists to their craft.

Are you serious? That stupid 2Pac tribute/ripoff alone, "Makaveli Never Lies" was evident enough that the old school Teena is just a memory. I'm sorry, but I'm just not feeling these tracks. Plus there ain't no upbeat, funky as jams like she used to do.

Teena performed in my area on Monday, and folks say that she stole the show (she was on a bill with Cameo,Isley Brothers and Rick James).I didn't get to go this time, but I saw her in concert before and she's just incredible. She's tiny like Prince, but man,she sings like you wouldn't believe....such a strong, powerful voice!

yup, she's on tour. She'll be in ATL at the Fox later on this month:
06/11 - Throwback Concert featuring Teena Marie, the Ohio Players and Rick James at the Fox Theatre at 8:00 PM. Admission $45 - $60.

That's right, girl! I'm in the same place as you and I was on the edge of ordering it too! Y'all don't know but as quiet as it's kept I do check the org primarily for music purchase suggestions; that's how I originally FOUND this site on the web in the first place! Opinions and suggestions from people like David Eye and Miss Har and invaluable to me living waaaaay over in a foreign country because they know their stuff, honey! I was planning on getting the new Teena real soon, and then I had to go and read this post
lol ! You know the post really got me all confused when it broke out comparisons to some good old songs of Teena's like Casanova Brown lol lol lol !

I agreee with this wholeheartedly. I aint feelin it either...and I love Teena Marie!

I like about 1/3 of the album but the guest spots kinda ruin it for me.

well..I kinda see yo point. Artists cant ALWAYS be subjugated to doing the things they did in the past. But I just KNEW that on this new CD, teena was gonna have a "Batuccada Suite" or a "Portugese Love" or some type of knock u on yo ass shyt on there. Teena Marie is one of the msot underrated SINGERS ever and the MOST soulful white singer I have ever heard and that is definitely felt on this new CD. I will give it another listen but I'm listening now to "Lips To Find You" from the EMERALD CITY album and this is the Teena I Know and love. She SANGING her butt off and playing her butt off! Thats the Teena I want!
