You're kidding, right? Her performance was great! Her voice may be gravelly, but she put her fucking all into that performance and I don't think I've enjoyed a vocal performance at an awards show as much as MJB's since Aretha took over for Paverotti and sang that opera piece a few years ago.

Sure, you're entitled to think her performance was awful. But you asked for opinions, and I would like to hear why you think it was awful. If you have never liked Mary's voice, than it's no wonder you didn't like the performance. If you think she was just having an off day, that's different. So, what I'm saying is explain yourself, please.

It seems like she is always off-key.
She seems to try too hard during her performance. Relax, take some singing lessons. I can't sing, & cringe @ the thought of singing in public -- I would send people running, screaming from the place.

AWFUL?
Though I missed MJB I hardly doubt her performance was terrrible. Please tell me WHAT THE HELL WAS BOB DYLAN SINGING ABOUT? He's a true icon of modern music, but his singing voice is wretched.

I saw her sing 'sweet thing' one time on the apollo I think a couple of years back, and she turned me off. But I still buy her CD's anyway. But I don't think she sounds jack like them, or the songs on the radio...what's up with that Mary???

In reference to what I said before, most 'artist' don't sound like it anyway, so...I guess that's just how the story goes sometimes.

..it's soul..the REAL soul...i don't get how people don't feel that...
but again..i guess it's just a matter of what appeals and what doesn't...
lotsa folks didn't think janis joplin could sing either...or billie holiday..but there's somethin that happens when a singer is 'possessed...'
i love mary...

Mary J.Blige voice has gotten better and stronger. She is one of the few R&B artists that has developed her own unique voice. A rarity now-a-days...INDEED. I disagree strongly with this comment. All of her albums are good too, I might add. She is continuing to evolve as an artist. Her performance on the 2002 Grammies was one of the best of the night. AGAIN... I disagree strongly with this comment!!!!!

As much as I dogged Mary's singing at the beginning of her career, I have to admit she's improved since. She still has a ways to go though, IMO. I have always admired the passion she puts into her singing, even if the pitch or vocal control goes awry at times. She will never be the Aretha she wants to be, but she's still a good singer in an age of poor singers.

If only we could get her to stop creating words.....hateration?? holleration??? lol

With 5 CDs, a lucrative musical career and a good 10+ years in the biz, and a bunch of Mary J wanna-bes like Sharissa, etc.; I'd say she's already there. Not much futher for her to go, really. I guess she needs a doll smile What? Beyonce has one! lol
