Trust me I could settle with this anyday over some neo-soul fool claiming that they got soul in their craft...

I couldn't help but put this quote outta that Teena Marie thread because to me, with each new release that's how Angie Stone comes across. When Angie's good, she's good: Brotha, Bone 2 Pick, w/ Vertical Hold. But she does more for upholding the contrived image of neo-soul with the 70s throwbacks and loops and samples of classic ish in her music. I will let the music speak for itself when its released, but surrounding herself with Betty Wright & Snoop Dogg, and new schoolers like Floetry and Anthony Hamilton makes her seem self-conscious about her music... like she's gotta cash in on every aspect of the neo-soul movement depending upon who's got the current buzz. Angie's talent and music deserve so much better than that. disbelief I sure hope Saadiq is on here.

She's def self-conscious, she said in Wendy Williams that the 'fro is the label's idea not hers. She was growing her hair naturaly at the time when she got signed and they dug her look, there4 they made-up this earthy mama image that she wasn't, she herself resents being called a "1st lady of neo-soul".

But I give her the credit 4 having knowledge and wisdom from being in this industry for 22 years, after that helluva long time? Homegirl came alooooong way and made an impact in this SHALLOW music world despite her look and age, gotta give her that alone.

Far as her music, I love the fact that she's talking about WOMEN ISSUES in general without any intellictual/spiritual ramblin' that those neo-soul tend to go through.
