New CD's - rate them - George, Lenny, Morrissey!

These CD's have come out at pretty much the same time, but the only one that I have so far is the Morrissey one. I dig it. I sorta heard the Lenny one on VH1.com a few weeks back and thought it wasn't too bad, either. I'm definitely gonna get George on Friday, but....anyhow -

How do you guys rate these CD's? Standout tracks? Other comments? Thanks!

I'm curious, too...I love Morrissey's work, and have only heard the one song off of George Micheal's CD (not too bad, but not anything I'd run out and buy...).

Morrissey- star star star star star One of his very best solo-CDs (if not his best). I love every single track on it and his wonderful voice sounds better than it has in years. Standout tracks: "First Of The Gang To Die"; "Come Back To Camden", "I Like You" and "Let Me Kiss You".

Lenny- star star star I like Baptism better than the last album. It has some really good songs like "California", but I would have liked a little less rock and a little more funk.

George- star star star star Great songs, great production. Standout-Tracks: "Patience" and "Cars & Trains". I think the album is a little too long. Two or three tracks less would have been better.

The only one I have is Lenny's and I give it 4 out of 5 stars easy. The standouts to me are Sistamamalover, Lady, California & Minister Of Rock n Roll. This is a couple of steps better than '5' & a whole lot better than the 'Lenny' album. A must have!
If I want your opinion, I'll beat it outta ya!

What they took off:

"Shoot The Dog" (did Bush request this be removed?)
"Patience, Pt. 2" (why?)
"Please Send Me Someone (Anselmo's Song) (Alternate Version)" (On the Japanese edition of "Patience", this is a much more relaxing synth-laden version of the cut that appears on the album)

Not a Lenny fan.

George Michael - his most commercial album since "Faith". Four pompous/self-important/embarassing songs shorter and it would have been superb. "Shoot the Dog" is the most surreal protest song Dylan never wrote. It's also impenetrable. Why he/Sony left it off the US release is mind-boggling. (8/10)

Morrissey - I'm a big fan and it's great to have him releasing music again. There are two great songs here: "First of the gang to die" and "I'm Not Sorry", but the rest is deadly dull. Musically and lyrically unadventurous, and nowhere near as good as his four finest albums. "America Is Not The World" states the very obvious (great title though), and the rest states the already stated elsewhere. He needs new musical collaborators. (5/10)

Couldn´t disagree more. There is not one weak song on that album. The only thing I don´t like about YATQ are the lyrics to "America Is Not The World" (not because of the theme but because I think they are a little weak). Every other song is fantastic, the melodies are great! This album is up there with "Vauxhall & I" and "Southpaw Grammar" (I know not many people like SG, but I do)

We'll agree to disagree. Like you, I love "Southpaw Grammar" - apart from "Dagenham Dave". Imagine what the album would have been like had he replaced "Dave" with "Nobody Loves Us".

I didn't realize that they had left songs off of George's American release - not cool! I like the Morrisey CD. Although it's not musically daring it's exactly what I thought it would be. His voice sounds better than ever, too. Gotta love the stinging tongue-in-cheek lyrics, too. I'm going to get George's CD tonight - still not decided on Lenny, yet.
