jazz apprieciation

just got a lil list of my 10 fav jazz tunes so dig and add to with yours.....

david sanborn-lesley ann-the melody and his trademark "sax grind" on the bridge does it everytime...

impromp2-enjoy yourself-1n of my favorite bass lines of all time....

jesse johnson-just wanting you-while not traditionally a jazz cat,1st time listeners to this song would be suprised to find out he isnt one...

ramsey lewis-somethin 'bout you-this was the 1st ramsey lewis song that made me a fan
prince-the rainbow children- a fitting jazz tribute to his dad...

hiroshima-streetcorner paradise-june kuramoto's harp is simply breathtaking

sting-fragile-heard it once and never let it go...

kenny g-songbird-as much as i can't stand the plastic jazz he does now i've always loved this masterpiece...

marvin gaye-trouble man-if i was a jazz radio dj this would damn sure be on my playlist...

grover washington jr.-black frost-this wouldn't be a list without this legend and his superb black frost...

george benson/earl klugh-dreamin-a guitar sensei and his disciple... electric meets acoustic...all resulting in a truly dreamy track...

deon estus-heaven help-some would put this in the r&b category, but with the horns and acoustic guitar this always felt more like jazz to me...

My husband and I are big fans of Chet Baker. He was a trumpet player (and singer) in the 50's and 60's. There was a moving made about him called "let's get lost". You should find it and watch it sometime. He plays beautiful trumpet and his voice is soft and sexy. He had a very tough life with drugs etc. Extremely talented man.

I like a lot of the tunes listed, but with all due respect, most of them aren't jazz tunes per se, but "jazzy" or "jazz-tinged," whatever you want to call it. Even still, those are great songs.

Co-sign what Stax said (just discovered that album). I'd add off the top of the dome

"Along Came Betty" -- Art Blakey Quintet
"Pickup Sticks" -- The Dave Brubeck Quartet
"Speak No Evil" -- Wayne Shorter
"Tunji" -- John Coltrane
"Recorda Me" -- Joe Henderson
"Eronel" -- Thelonious Monk
"Knowledge Box" -- Horace Silver Trio
"Somethin' Else" -- Cannonball Adderley
"Joshua" -- Miles Davis
"Valse" -- Bill Evans
Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Sorry but most of the albums you mentioned don't come close to the REAL jazz classics.

i did that on purpose 'cause i alwyas like 2 challenge myself musically, and i thought my mentionin miles, coltrane, or any of the standards would've been "cliche"....

Cliche or not....Miles and Coltrane were awesome!!!! I still think Coltrane's Love Supreme is a classic...better yet...how bout his cut...."Out of This World".
