It looks like this is the setlist that was performed on opening night. With the exception of "Material Girl" and "Lament (from Evita)",it's pretty much the same setlist that has been rumored for weeks...

The Beast Within (intro)
Vogue
Nobody Knows Me
Frozen
American Life
Express Yourself
Burning Up
Material Girl
Hollywood
Hanky Panky
Deeper And Deeper
Die Another Day
Lament (from "Evita")
Bedtime Story
Nothing Fails
Like A Prayer
Don't Tell Me
Mother And Father
Imagine
Into The Groove
Papa Don't Preach
Crazy For You (some shows will feature "Love Profusion" instead)
Music
Holiday

To those of you who caught the show in L.A. last night,is this the exact setlist? Details, please lol

Here's a concert report from a fan (Manuel Miranda) who attended last night's opening show.According to this fan,the song "Hollywood" was NOT performed...

My full "reinvention" tour experience and report---

The Beast Within ---even though Madonna isn't in this, the video is really quite scary and very artsy. It's very innovative, and quite frightening.Everyone in the audience was a bit disturbed (in a good way) by this song. It's just a video that leads to her entrance.

Vogue ---awesome entrance and incredible choreography. It was really good, and the overall presentation was fantastic. She looked beautiful and the costume was beautiful as well.

Nobody Knows Me ---she sings this alone but danced along the stage. It was a good performance.

Frozen ---a bit dull. She sings it alone in front of a mic.Nothing too exciting.

American Life ---the best performance of all.A major production.Choreography and alot of things going on.Very lively and energetic. This is the song that will be the most memorable of all from this show.At one point she dances on a platform that hangs over the entire bottom floor of the audience members. This was,by far,the best song in terms of performance.Very spectacular.

Express Yourself ---Incredible.Great choreography with the rifles.Very fun and incredibly done. One of the better performances as well.

Burning Up ---this was cool because it was done in a heavy metal theme. She plays the guitar and just sings this alone on stage.

Material Girl ---done in a similar fashion as "Burning Up".Rock version. It was alright, nothing great about this one.

Hanky Panky ---this was fun, very circus-like.She dances like in the "Chicago" musical.Very fun and entertaining.

Deeper and Deeper ---done as a slow song, but it was rather good.

Die Another Day ---disappointing.Such a good song, but with such mediocre choreography.

Lament ---this is interesting, she gets placed on the electric chair, but she doesn't actually get electrocuted like we thought she would. At least not in this show.

Bedtime Story ---this is a video interlude and it is sooooo good. She looks BEAUTIFUL in this video.Incredible.It's a great video she did for this. All in white with a beautiful white horse running through the desert.

Nothing Fails ---disappointing.She just sings in front of a mic and her guitar.

Don't Tell Me ---by far the most disappointing of all. It's the EXACT same choreography as the Drowned World Tour.EXACTLY the same.Only difference? She gives it a French theme.

Like A Prayer ---no choreography for this, but it was good because it had a video of many people singing this song, and it was moving and touching. It was a fun moment in the show.

Mother And Father ---a religious point. Many Jesus Christ images on the screens.Very religious and very Catholic. She sings this with her guitar and it was actually very good.Nothing spectacular though.

Imagine ---the most touching and sentimental part of the show. She had everyone in tears.Beautiful rendition and the video images are sad and depressing.Images of poverty, war and famine around the world. This was a key moment of the show.

Into The Groove --- a bagpipe man enters and they do choreography with sticks.Though the costume is poor in originality, the choreography and performance is excellent.

Papa Don't Preach ---cute choreography and well done.Nothing spectacular though.

Crazy For You ---she dedicates this to her fans.Sings it beautifully by herself.Nice performance.

Music ---very visual.Cool choreography.Nothing spectacular but pretty cool.

Holiday ---the finale and what a good one.Confetti is thrown throughout the entire stadium and the choreography is good.It is actually a rather short exit song. The show ends with a screen saying: Reinvent Yourself.

ANALYSIS---Better than Drowned World? Depends.Better song setlist, better choreography.Drowned World Tour had better costumes, and "Sky Fits Heaven" is still incredibly untouchable and unbeatable. She could probably never top that performance. On this tour, she sang GREAT.Her voice sounded incredible. If people like this show better,it's not by a long shot. Many liked Drowned World Tour better. This one is longer though.I like it a bit better than Drowned World, but not by a lot.It was a very close call.I did expect a bit more, but maybe that was just 2 months of anticipation building up.Overall,it was a GREAT show.Well done and great production. The best parts? "American Life","Vogue","Express Yourself" and "Imagine".

I read this on MadonnaWeb too, DavidEye. Wierd that Hollywood was on the setlist but not performed! I have also heard conflicting reports this morning about the electric chair that she was supposed to have in Die Another Day. The TV said Yay - yet the fans said Nay.... what's going on?

Because this was the opening night,I think there may have been some first-night "glitches" that prevented the show from running as planned. The same thing happened at the beginning of the Drowned World Tour,in which the opening show had to be cancelled altogether. It's possible that some of the props for "Hollywood" weren't working,so they scrapped it from the setlist at the last minute. As for the electrocution scene...maybe the publicity and hype surrounding it made Madonna decide to "tone it down",knowing that some folks wouldn't get the message? In any case,I'm sure the problems will be worked out and fixed for tonight's performance.

Funny, alot of fans didn't really like the song "American Life" when it came out last year, but on this tour,it seems to be the highlight. At least according to several fan reviews that I read.A fan writes...

Surprisingly,"American Life" was the best performance of the night, complete with military theme, incredible dancing and a stage that extended to the first twenty rows.Even the rap was exciting here! She did not overdo the military theme, like initial rumors indicated

lol shame on those of you who suggested that she shouldn't be doing that song on this tour.

At an early stage, many other songs were being rehearsed for the show...

Live To Tell
Dress You Up
Borderline
Like A Virgin
Ray Of Light
Take A Bow
Justify My Love
Easy Ride

disbelief But unfortunately, there wasn't enough room for everything so some of her best songs got deleted from the setlist.

Yeah and madonna isn't the type to mix up her shows either. DAMN! I was so looking forward to Dress You Up BUT I can't WAIT to hear CRAZY FOR YOU...my favorite song by Maddy!

Read this on a news page:
Madonna has launched her world tour in the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles.

The singer showed herself to be in peak fitness at a packed concert.

The date was the first of 50 for the Re-Invention tour which will see the singer perform in the US, Canada and Europe.

Her entourage includes more than 100 people travelling on the road, 56 security guards working backstage and 12 dancers.

A truck houses her wardrobe and make-up and she has also made provision for a children's playroom backstage.

An estimated 750,000 fans are expected to see the show, which arrives in the UK in August.

Over 100 people eek No wonder she has to charge a fortune for tickets, to pay all their wages! All that, and she still has technical hitches that prevent the show being completed properly!

I wonder how many people travel with Prince, I bet it's a lot less...

Yeah, when you think of how much money she spends on her tours, you can almost understand why she charges up to $300 per ticket...lol...this is an expensive production.

WOW, sounds um, lacklustre at best if I'm to trust this summary.

Sounds like she really managed to fuck up "Into The Groove" (or at least suck the fun out of it).

She gives it a French theme.

hmmm, into the groove actually sounds kinda cool to me. i'm rather disappointed in that there are too many songs where she just plays guitar or stands in front of the mic and sings. i am really interested in seeing into the groove and deeper and deeper, not to mention the new material.

Yeah, here are a few of my problems:

- "Deeper And Deeper" is NOT meant to be a slow jam. Why fuck with perfection?
- a lot of dance tracks ("Nobody Knows Me", "Burning Up", etc.) feature just her singing at a mic or dancing alone; what's up with that?
- "Frozen" demands better production than "alone in front of a mic"; remember DWT?
- she apparently put most effort into one of her worst songs ("American Life"); guess she still isn't done trying to push that project
- "Bedtime Story" is only a video interlude; the song rocks, and her previous performances of it have kicked ass, so I'd miss that
- "cute", "disappointing", "poor in originality", "nothing spectacular", "a bit dull", "nothing exciting", etc. permeate this review - and this is coming from a hardcore fan. These are not words I normally associate with a Madonna tour.

Apparently she managed to pull off "Imagine", though.
