anyway, for those interested, here is a link to one of the few reviews i could find this morning. http://www.newsday.com/en...columnists hardly any reviews at all I know! whassup with that? I did like the review posted. Thanks Sassy! I liked the part about Cher having depleted the world supply of sequins! Anyhoo, does anyone know how different the songs that were played? Like is Vogue different? All of the songs are supposed to be different, I was just wondering how different...like the Marlene Detrichesque Like a Virgin. And is that the correct order of the songs? Isn't there some sort of medley at the beginning and Hollywood is one of the openers? A few observations though…Great set-list…Wish Drowned World had been at least that far reaching into her catalogue…Hanky Panky…Burning Up…Can’t wait for the DVD! Leave it to Madonna to scrap the Original idea of the American Life video…to bring it out in concert in full force. Still wish she had the guts to have released it like it was supposed to be. Also similarities between her and P for their tours…confetti dropping, lack of shock and vulgarity, hits packages, and their new found religions are semi prevalent in their shows. Yeah, here are a few of my problems: - "Deeper And Deeper" is NOT meant to be a slow jam. Why fuck with perfection? - a lot of dance tracks ("Nobody Knows Me", "Burning Up", etc.) feature just her singing at a mic or dancing alone; what's up with that? - "Frozen" demands better production than "alone in front of a mic"; remember DWT? - she apparently put most effort into one of her worst songs ("American Life"); guess she still isn't done trying to push that project - "Bedtime Story" is only a video interlude; the song rocks, and her previous performances of it have kicked ass, so I'd miss that - "cute", "disappointing", "poor in originality", "nothing spectacular", "a bit dull", "nothing exciting", etc. permeate this review - and this is coming from a hardcore fan. These are not words I normally associate with a Madonna tour. Apparently she managed to pull off "Imagine", though. When did she perform Betime Story? I have never seen/heard that live. I actually like it when she changes a classic tune. Usually those are my favorite parts to her concerts. Would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see any live rendition of Dear Jessie. Christian Zombie Vampires

Sounds like she really managed to fuck up "Into The Groove" (or at least suck the fun out of it). [This message was edited Tue May 25 14:41:54 2004 by VoicesCarry] hmmm, into the groove actually sounds kinda cool to me. i'm rather disappointed in that there are too many songs where she just plays guitar or stands in front of the mic and sings. i am really interested in seeing into the groove and deeper and deeper, not to mention the new material. I would welcome a set with just her and a guitar. Simplified songs of hers would be great. Though I'd rather have that as an unplugged. Doing it as part of an exciting concert, I can see it dragging the show a bit down...unless she took something that wasn't meant for guitar and played it...like Angel or something like that. Apparently she managed to pull off "Imagine", though. i initially thought the same thing about deeper and deeper but then i figured if you wanna see it the way it was recorded, we can just watch the girlie show dvd. as for frozen...there ain't never gonna be no topping the version from the drowned world tour. that and la isla bonita were my favorite portions of that show. i think its pretty bitchy of her to put her biggest efforts into a song that nobody gave any credit to. and that's the madonna i love...bitchy and tongue-in-cheek! i will admit i am more than slightly disappointed in bedtime story being a video interlude but what can ya do? i guess she has to draw the lines somewhere. just the fact that i will get to hear like a prayer, vogue, burning up, into the groove, express yourself and so many other hits as well as new songs (which i love)...i can deal with a video of bedtime story.

Surprisingly,"American Life" was the best performance of the night, complete with military theme, incredible dancing and a stage that extended to the first twenty rows.Even the rap was exciting here! She did not overdo the military theme, like initial rumors indicated shame on those of you who suggested that she shouldn't be doing that song on this tour. Just because it's a good performance doesn't make it a good song. Just because she put a lot of effort into it doesn't make it de facto worthwhile. Maybe she could have put more effort into songs the majority of people were actually interested in hearing. [This message was edited Tue May 25 15:31:38 2004 by VoicesCarry]

here's another review with fan commentary. i must say, its funny how the media will have you believe that nobody likes madonna having a political view. isn't this the same woman who fought for gay rights and spoke out about AIDS? why is it a problem now that she speaks out against a war? the news media is pretty slick...anyway, here's the article:

I like it a lot. She's promoting the album...so it seems fitting to do stuff from her latest...though not greatest. Maybe just do the singles and not the other songs. Christian Zombie Vampires

At an early stage, many other songs were being rehearsed for the show... Live To Tell Dress You Up Borderline Like A Virgin Ray Of Light Take A Bow Justify My Love Easy Ride But unfortunately, there wasn't enough room for everything so some of her best songs got deleted from the setlist. She could have squeezed them in. I thought that "Justify My Love" was supposed to real rock. It would have been cool to try!

VoicesCarry, the song "Amercan Life" reflects where Madonna is at these days, spiritually and emotionally. It's how she feels about the world, her quest for fame, and her attempt to live out the Amercan dream. There was no way she was gonna leave this song out of the setlist, and nor should she.And from reading most of the fan reviews,it seems to be getting a great reception.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/h...745329.stm I always laugh when FANS complain about Madonna's political views.I mean, did these people just become fans yesterday?? Madonna has ALWAYS been outspoken and not afraid to say exactly what's on her mind. And why are these fans shocked that her tour contains an anti-war segment? Didn't they see the cover of her 'American Life' CD? Didn't they see (or at least hear about) the controversial video? Didn't they read her interviews from last year? Madonna has always had extreme views and she's never been afraid to express herself.I swear, some of these fans should just skip this tour and keep their lame asses at home.

25 May - Madonna: "I had some things to say"
It was lights, camera and plenty of action at the opening night of Madonna's Re-invention tour in Los Angeles, Monday, and "Extra" was backstage where stars like Christina Aguilera snuck in a side door and David Spade and Fran Drescher milled around. Just minutes after the show, the pop icon came to tell us why she's back on stage. "To set the world on fire," she announced. "I had some things I had to say." Madonna told us that she's speaking to fans and is using all of her best songs to get her message across. "That's the whole idea of the show," she revealed. "I've taken them and I've reinvented them and they have a whole new meaning." Madonna's British husband, Guy Ritchie, gave especially high marks for Madonna's bagpipe rendition of "Get into the Groove." "I like Scotland and it's very nice," he said, adding, "But I enjoyed the whole show." Longtime friend, Debbie Mazar, enjoyed the concert as well: "I love seeing the imagery and how she puts herself on film and sings; she's a great entertainer." And Madonna's enjoying it too, especially having a few new members in her entourage her kids and husband. Madonna also debunked rumors that she cancelled Israel concert dates because of a terrorist threat to kill her and her kids. With a kids' play area backstage and no new album on the horizon, many have speculated that Madonna may be close to calling it quits, but Guy insisted that there's sure to be another concert tour after this. "I don't think she's going to slow down," he observed. For now, Madonna is just happy to be on the road with her family, and she doesn't want to hear any complaining: "Do I need an album to promote? Don't people need a good show to go to?" (source: ExtraTV)

"Guy insisted that there's sure to be another concert tour after this"
Maddy's manager recently said the same thing, when fans were asking if she would play their country. She said something to the effect of "that area will have to wait until the next tour".it's great to see that Maddy is not planning to retire anytime soon.I predict Madonna will get into a regular routine of touring every three years or so.As her kids get bigger, she will probably start doing longer, more extensive tours (like Cher's last tour).

Well, in response to the review, this person says "Nothing Fails" was dissapointing because she just performed it with an acoustic at the mic. Well, for me, that is EXACTLY how I hoped she'd do it!! That song is so beautiful, it needs to be stripped-down so folks will listen to its incredible lyrics. Bravo, Madonna!!!! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Exactly! It seems that this guy wants EVERY song to be performed with lavish props, fireworks and startling video images...lol...those things are fine, but on some songs,it's nice to slow things down and keep it simple.I wouldn't mind if Maddy had a whole segment devoted to just her singing and playing guitar,in a warm, acoustic setting.
