Jill Scott - Beautifully Human / Words and Sounds Vol 2 can't wait for this. Jill Scott and Saadiq
HIDDEN BEACH RECORDINGS JILL SCOTT RETURNS WITH HER LATEST CD, BEAUTIFULLY HUMAN: WORDS AND SOUNDS, Vol. 2 The Platinum Plus-Selling Soul Singer Unveils Her New Body of Work Fans have been waiting for it. The music industry has been anticipating it. And now three time Grammy-nominated vocal sensation Jill Scott is set to deliver yet another collection of luminous and poignant songs as her new CD, Beautifully Human, Words And Sounds Vol. 2, is unveiled August 31 on Hidden Beach Recordings. Scott, who after nonstop promotion of her 2001 multi-platinum-selling debut CD, Who Is Jill Scott? Words And Sounds, Vol. 1, took time off to exhale. She married her soulmate and enjoyed life as a newlywed. Scott, a former Broadway actress (Rent), also quenched her thespian thirst by doing some acting and, of course, she carved out some downtime to write and create music. After embarking on other creative outlets, the multi-talented performer is ready and excited about expressing herself again through song. While Scott got back into the mindset to craft enchanting music and inspiring lyrics, she appreciated all the positive vibes and patience her fans gave to her. This alluring wordsmith has again created songs that are nurtured in the heart and sung with love. In fact, the first single, “Golden,” talks about freedom and empowering oneself to live to the fullest, to look at life as if it is golden. Scott will shoot the music video for “Golden” in the coming weeks. For this CD, Scott turned to some of the same producers from Who Is Jill Scott?--James Poser, Andre Harris and Vidal Davis, Ivan and Carvin (“Mama’s Boys”). She also sought a fresh approach by going into the studio with producers she had long wanted to collaborate with such as Ant Bell, P-nut, Pete Kuzma, and Raphael Saadiq. Taking her music back to its grassroots, Scott will debut her new work at intimate listening sessions across the nation. And though Beautifully Human has yet to be released, Scott is already receiving media coverage. She will be featured on the cover of the August issue of Essence magazine. During her three-year hiatus, Scott remained in the public eye. She completed a movie for Showtime titled Cavedwellers with Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, and appeared in an episodic arc (4 episodes) of the UPN’s series “Girlfriends.” She also secured a publishing deal with St. Martins Press. But Scott’s focus now is pure music. Her vision is Beautifully Human.

Cavedwellers is going to cable? that sucks...thats the movie that wendy wrote six tracks for...her, ummm..*cough cough* friend lisa cowlecheck (or something like that) is the directo (same lady that directed High Art with ally sheedy...) kira sedwick is an aspiring songstress and sings wendy's tunes...
oh well...at least jill is part of the girlbros six degrees now.. oh yeah, im also looking forward to hearing this album...even though the whole "vol 2" thing reeks of pretention...anytime an artist pulls something like that it usually scares off people... Space for sale...

Two questions I'd appreciate any help with, her exotic looks and her musical past.
What is Jill's racial heritage? did she ever actually play live shows with Prince and if so, from what era? Many thanks in advance.

Musically I thought it was sort of generic, and the arrangements seemed pretty ordinary. After all the rumblings about it I was left thinking, "Is that all?" It seems that the current trend is that as long as someone has that classic '70s Soul production sound captured on a recording they're going to get a lot of hype, no matter the overall lack of distinctiveness of the songs. As if you're automatically Old School quality as an artist if you have THAT sound. She's a solid lyricist, nothing mindblowing. In terms of debut albums up to that time from the last decade I was much more overwhelmed by Meshell Ndegeocello's Plantation Lullabies, and thought Dionne Farris's Wild Seed, Wild Flower was more interesting. Wow, y'all shockin me this evening I can't say that musically it was mindblowing but I think I was most impressed w/ her subject matter & the fact that there was some instrumentation to be had on the album. Love her voice, dig her take on things. And the live album is the shit!

I can definitely agree with you there in terms of this being a debut cd maybe all of the hype behind it wasn't truly warranted. But I always thought it was a solid cd and very nice to listen to.

Hel-lo! I've been saying that since the creation. In fact I made a post about it and got a helluva backlash in return, remember? Shit, nobody hears me out! There's nothing wrong with he voice and she's a bangin' lyricist but the MATERIAL is lifeless IMHO and she's the one who puts the life in them when both of them should be COMPLIMENTING EACH OTHER, if you know what I'm saying. She's betta live IMHO and on a personal level? She's cool people but I could live without her 4ever-going intellectual, spiritual rambling.

Yeah, I vaguely remember that thread you're talking about and I agree with ya. But...I don't want to pile on Jill; I respect her and her work (unlike someone like Madonna), I'm just not a fan. I didn't care for Erykah Badu's debut album either (and my nephew SWORE I'd dig it) - but I'm a fan of her last couple of albums. So things could change. This post not for the wimp contingent.
