Just wondering if there were any other john mayer fans in here. I bought his second album and liked it a lot. i haven't bought his first album yet but i know i may have to cop that one too. I love his style, his mellow mood, and his husky voice. anyone else feel the same?

When he was first hitting it big, I really got into him. Saw him live a few times, played his CDs endlessly. But, thanks to radio overkill, I got really burnt out and haven't even picked up "Heavier Things."

If you haven't seen him live, DO IT. He's an awesome performer, mad guitar skills. I just needed to take a break.

Yes, but not of his album work. It is too teeny bopper for me. However, his live guitar work will astound you. I am a huge SRV fan and heard John Mayer played a sort of tribute to Stevie Ray during his live show. I bought a ticket for that reason alone. Near the end of the show he finally tears it up playing a SRV style blues guitar solo for about 15 minutes. I've heard stuff like that before but had never seen it in person until then. He is freaky talented on the guitar no question.

The best song on his newest CD is "Come Back to Bed." Check it out if you haven't already. It is worth paying for the whole CD.

I have both his albums, "Room For Squares" and "Heavier Things"... don't have the live album or the indie release.

I'm diggin' him very much. Love the lyrics and the vocals.

As I type this, Kinko's is playing his "City Love," the SRV-ish guitar solo. That boy has chops.

I hate this guy.

You can tell he loves himself to pieces and not in a good way, like Prince for example.

I remember thinking, "hmmm, different" when he first came out, but that "Body is a Wonderland" has got to be one of the worst songs of all time. In fact, it made as one of the worst on a recent list of Worst Songs Ever.

That husky voice is stupid too....I mean, SING, dammit.

I like Heavier Things more than his previous releases.

He's ok if you like John then you may want to check out Jason Mraz too if you haven't already

You're right, though, he does sing like he's giving head. Guess that just ties in with the whole "I'm-a-sweet-and-sensitive-toy-boy-with-fashionably-unkempt-hair-and-a-willing-tongue" image he likes to pimp to his (largely female) audience.

John Mayer is a talented musician and songwriter. He'll probably be around for a long time. As for Dave Matthews, I burnt out on him after his third album. Now it all sounds the same... whereas you can tell that John Mayer is growing, because "Heavier Things" sounds worlds apart from "Room for Squares". As long as John keeps evolving and growing as an artist, he'll be fine.

Dave Matthews should retire though.

He laughs at himself NOW... He hasn't always been so lighthearted with folks -- hence his control-freak reputation. My understanding of Mayer is that the guy was darn-near a guitar prodigy who quit music school to concentrate on songwriting and building a fan base. If that biography is an accurate one, to be so popular and well regarded at his age (in today's music biz, no less) is no mean feat.

Back to the subject, I've seen JM live and while he didn't seem like a guitar prodigy to me he can play and the songwriting aint' bad either. Oh and Mayer didn't quit music school so much as he left before he failed out. Which makes his success now that much more interesting.

p.s. as far as his cover songs go, you gotta hear his version of "Message in a Bottle". Dang near as good as The Police .

I must admit I wasn't drawn to John Mayer until "Your Body is A Wonderland." It's cutesy and whatnot, but I loved it. He has a good head about things and he can mix it up with blues and rock greats without showing out. I got tired of the Dave Matthews comparison really fast. Inside Wants Out is a nice gem. I recommend checking that out. I included a couple of them as faves.

I can't see him live only because I don't want to be surrounded by shouting/screaming teens (doesn't want to turn back into one). If he performed in a smaller venue like Bimbo's or Slim's, then I'd reconsider. I'll just enjoy tv performance. Oh yeah I saw him on Chapelle Show a week or two ago. That was quite hilarious.
