fans of Alt/Industrial Rock on the org

I don't usually stroll to far outside the music and more room, decided to drop by in here, caught a thread about best/worst band names and noticed a lot of people mentioning Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Jack off Jill etc. I was a bit surprised considering how many orgers like to get on their spiritual high hourse now that P is so religous

Just curious if P fans are also into that kind of music. I know i loved Ministry, NIN, Manson, KMFDM, thw whole Wax Trax scene, etc back in the day. Who do u like or still listen to like that.

I use to be quite a Waxtrax fanatic - particularly Front 242. I used to listen to Masterhit obsessively. However I can't stand listening to that music these days - it just sounds horribly dated to me. Out of curiousity I thew on Skinny Puppy's 12 inch compilation a few months back, and it just seemed ridiculously silly. I can't believe I used to take that stuff seriously.

I still occasionally listen to the "grandfathers" of the genre - Coil, Throbbing Gristle and (especially) Cabaret Voltaire.

Yea, the genre hasn't aged to gracfully, especially the likes of Front 242, frontline, etc. I can still put on most NIN records, manson, and ministry and be satisfied though. Even though I liked the grandfathers, (caberet voltaire, coil) I liked the more accessible tendancies of the next generation.

I do still think skinny puppy was cool, although i never really put on those records much, i definitely respected the artistic experimental nature as well as the political messages, i actually thought that was mature.

I'll agree that NIN and Ministry have aged pretty well - I think the fact that they both incorporated elements of metal and (in Ministry's case) thrash into their sound definitely helps in that department. As for Manson, well I'm just not a fan, but I'm really not qualified to criticize him (or praise him, for that matter) as I've honestly never heard one minute of music that he's created.

When I was younger I was completely on board with the kind of message Skinny Puppy was advocating. Unfortunately I'm now an (almost) middle-aged, boring accountant who worries about his RRSP contribution. I'm afraid Skinny Puppy just don't speak to me anymore!

Ah well, these things happen...you can't be young and nihilistic forever...

oh HELL yeah. i was all about ministry, skinny puppy, Wax Trax, 4AD and all that good stuff back in the day. i'm not quite as much of a fan of the stuff these days, but whenever i wanna take a stroll down memory lane, nothin' beats throwing a bit of "too dark park" in the ol' stereo. smile

I used to really be into the Wax Trax stuff then moved on to gothic rock and now I listen to general alternative music. NOT modern rock that gets played on the radio--more stuff like PJ Harvey, The Raveonettes, Sleater Kinney, as well as harder acts like Horrorpops, My Ruin and Scarling. Rock bands with female vocalists tend to draw my attention more. See my profile for more bands.
