The most influential musicians of all time?

The Beatles
Robert Johnson
Duke Ellington
Sun Ra
Miles Davis
Eric B & Rakim
Louis Armstrong
James Brown
Bessie Smith
Beethoven

To name a few...what do other people think? His royal purpleness of course is on this list, but who else?

Jimi Hendrix has influenced at least two generations of guitar players. It's hard to gauge how influential he remains in today's era of disposable "artists", but I suppose that can be said about the other greats you have listed as well.

I did forget alot..Dylan actually influenced the Beatles. Eric B & Rakim changed Rap lyrically. You had to be able to actually spit by the time they came out. Paid in full is probably one if not the best Hip-hop album of all time in my humble opinion. Ohhh I hate Elvis!

Ya'll fools should've mentioned:

Billie "Lady Day" Holiday-She's the MOST IMPORTAN female jazz singer *period*

Chaka "Wild Chile" Khan-Everyone 2day bite her style from MJB to Erykah Badu. I think what she delievered is as important as Aretha's probably even more cuz Chaka explored EDGIER aspects of music in which other black pre4mers haven't explored yet(One of the most important FEMALE FUSION artists). Thats probably why white folks are not fimiliar with her, cuz the bitch don't play it safe, the mainstream is not ready 4 such free spirit. Its really sad to say that Chaka's legacy may neva get eknowledged till she's dead & gone.

Sarah "Sass" Vaughan-Jazz bitches 2day are doing to her what RnB bitches are doing to Chaka. Biting her style, phrases and the whole shebang.

Herbie Hancock-One of the greatest jazz innovators after Miles' era.

Roy Ayres-He's the other opposite half of Lionle Hampton

Lionle Hampton-I think he really shined after he split from Benny Goodman.

MJ-Say as much as you want to, but the man is a VERY important pop figure whether you eknowledge it or not(waaaay mo' important that Maddy, chill btw).

Prince-One of the last innovators in the music biz.

Why stole? Wasn't he just performing a genre of music that just hapened to be created by black people? Are black people the only ones allowed to sing R&B? Weren't The Beatles and The Rolling Stones performing black music as well? Why didn't they "steal" it?

Your inclusion of Erik B & Rakim had me scratching my head a bit too, until I thought about their influence in the hip hop genre. But you see, your qualifier "musicians," is something that is gonna put a lot of people off when you include rappers/lyricists in the bunch. biggrin
