Oakland is a former shell of itself...Just a ghetto now. When I lived there Oakland was nice. The late 70's through 1990. In '90 things were getting bad then. Old friends ask me to visit, but I am not feeling it. The last time I did, I almost got carjacked and hadn't even been in town ten minutes.
Yes, Pump It Up was the video that looks like it was shot on a dock, probably the Oakland Pier (damn, what's that called) C'mon Calhoun...you know where they have those giant white machines that look like Star Wars machines/ships? In West Oakland. I do miss BART. I loved BART and would ride it for hours with my walkman on as a kid. The subway here is NO comparison.
