Uh oh, uh oh, here comes the Hammer! Remember the Hammer? Damn I always loved his music! Yeah I like other more 'serious' hiphop, but hammer was mainly about the partying and dancing! Good, clean original rap artist who mixed it with pop that has been a staple 4 artists like P. Diddy, Nelly and yes, even Eminem!
He deserves way more props then what he got or was given! People resented him 'cause of his "Sellout" qualities! Hey, Hammer deserved his sucsess and opened doors 4 rap to become bigger and more profitable anyway! Come on, his vids were dope! Fav songs 1) "U cant touch this" 2) "2 legit 2 quit" 3) "Do not pass me by" 4) "This is the way we roll" 5) "Adams Groove" 6) "Lets get it started" 7) "Pumps and a bump" 8) "Don't stop" Who said Hiphop had to be always serious anyway? He had some bad songs, but alot of it was very good! Remember the "2 legit 2 quit" video! He challanged Jacko to a dance contest back then and Jacko turned him down! Now that would of been an awsome thing to see! Don't compare him to Vanilli ice as he was just a watered down imitation of Hammer! His gangster album, 1994's "The funky headhunter" is a good listen! Gone is the sense of humour but the death rowish production suits him very well! "Pumps and a bump" would of gone down as a classic if it were bloody Dre or Tupac! Come on, their must be some love 4 the Hammer?

Remember his version of "Soft and Wet" on his first album! Yikes!
So was "Pray" actually written by Prince as a lot of people believe or is it because Hammer took the "When Doves Cry" tune? --------------------------------------------------

When I saw MC Hammer's 1st(?) video "Pump it Up", I knew this guy was gonna make it because he was about to add "Showtime" to what had become, IMO, tired rap acts that needed a kick in the a$$. (even though he wasn't really a rapper)
Upfront, i'll admit i'm not a fan of rap music. Outside of RUN DMC, Erik B and Rakim, Kool Moe D, Public Enemy and very few others (basically old-schoolers), you can have it. How many times can you look at a rapper swallowing a mic to the point that you can't understand what he's saying, surrounded by sullen looking "stage roamers" and "pep rally-rappers" (throw yo hands in the air, make some noise y'all, say hoooo...now somebody scream). Boring. Gimme a break. Anyway, what I got out of that particular video was a groovin' track, a cat that could dance and was accompanied by some REAL SISTAHS (Tabatha King, Djuana Johnican and Phyllis Charles). No anorexic LA face w/out Oakland booty types. They did have some Oakland booty goin' on. A nice lo budget video that was fun to watch. The rest is history. Sweet LD (Djuana Johnican), Terrible T (Tabatha King) along with MC Hammer. Tribal Disorder "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Particually that one, the verses are good though and the vid had some of his best moves! The hype behind that vid, only Jacko created vids back then on as high budget as Hammer! Damn, just remembered the original "Pumps and a bump" vid! Hammer was very brave 4 that one! Anyone know what I'm talking about! I think they had to re-cut that video! Um, "Pumps and a Bump" has to be one of the most awful songs ever.
I don't have a problem with "hip-hop" not being serious, but he was really trying to be tough with that song.

Yeah i hear u, but that song is a must 4 parties, it was hard to accept this song and image back then, but i got round that and this song is not serious really, just deep funk with rather risque lyrics (for Hammer-check out bridge)! As said before, that song would of blown up huge if it was Dre or Tupac, now that annoys me tons i'm afraid!

So was "Pray" actually written by Prince as a lot of people believe or is it because Hammer took the "When Doves Cry" tune? It is credited on songwriting with Prince, but that's just hammer being surprisenly generous as naming him co-writer when in fact all Hammer did was use Princes tune and nothing else! Prince had NOTHING to do with it! Same with "U can't touch this", where he list Rick James in the songwriting bit and not the usual sample by bit! Hammer did record at Paisly park though! But then so did many others but interesting nonetheless!

Stax said: I saw Hammer at both of the Prince shows at the House of Blues in Vagas last February. Did he go up on stage and sing "Pray" with Prince, would that fit in with his Jehovah beliefs now? The song amounts to "We got to pray, just to make it today", so a rather silly question but it would of been nice nonetheless! or "Soft and wet" sample he used of course!

Actually, Hammer's first video was "Let's Get It Started" which must of cost like $50 total. Pump It was the second video and a huge step up in production value. He was drippin' with Jheri Curl juice big time in those days I used to kick it sometimes with them during the "Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em" days. My roommates were some kind of executives at Bust-It! and one of them was dating Tabitha (Terrible T)...Y'all are forgettin' that other homegirl, B Angie B. She used to sing all of the hooks on Hammer's and associates jamz (remember "Juicy Gotcha Krazy") That's Juui-caay to you Then she got her boobs done and went solo. She had a few minor hits, the only one I can think of though is the remake of The Emotions' "I Don't Want To Lose Your Love" which is still the jam, she covered it right (meaning she had the vocal chops.) That's my little memories of my time with Hammer.

I just noticed someone mentioned "Pumps and Bump" video...I have a master copy of that one, and I think it's the un-edited version. 'Cause this is the one where his d*ck is flopping all over the place in that speedo...I remember everyone's reaction when that video came out. They were like, "Daaaayyuuum, Is that all you Hammer?"
