I may be slow, but this just hit me.

The melody of Ghetto Superstar's chrous, by Mya is that of Islands in the Stream by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.

I know, it's sad, but for some god awful reason I was singing one of those songs...and I really cant remember which one!

I thought this thread was going to be about Joi's Ghetto Superstar which was out at exactly the same time but didn't have a movie (Bullworth) behind it to give it that extra push. Also, her record company (EMI) went under at the same time (remember Emancipation) and she (and the album) shifted to Dallas Austin's labe Freeworld...but soon after that label also went under and the Amoeba Cleansing Syndrome never saw the light of day. It's a pity though because it's a classic.
