does anyone hear think that vanessa carlton owes a huge debt to tori amos? hey there guys. i couldn't help myself. after kate bush vs. tori amos thread, i had to strike back. there are some people to this day who are somewhat bitter that tori amos has had a more success ful carreer than kate bush. or maybe just the career that kate deserved. i'm not necessarily in agreement but one thing is for sure. look at all the artists that apppear to have had overnite success who are not nearly as good or original as tori amos. one of the first that comes to mind is vanessa carlton. would vanessa carlton like a little cheese with that whine? she is an ok piano player but highly overrated. tori is a far better composer, singer/songwriter, or performer than lil' miss carlton. however, does tori get the coverage on mtv or vh-1 that vanessa got? no. nor did tori's a sorta fairytale get the play that vanessa's a thousand miles received either. anyone have an opinion on this? if so, post away.

Well... although I haven't heard much of Vanessa, I think she's the "safe" answer to Tori, much like Avril Whateverhernameis is a safe version of "skater punk".
I would say that Fiona and Alanis owe a great deal to Tori, for opening the doors so to speak. I have an interview from either Extra or E... I can't remember... where Tori talks about breaking down doors and she aknowledges the women that came before her and the ones that are breaking barriers now. It's not just a piano thing. I hate hearing Vanessa and Tori in the same sentence though, it's like Prince and Jimi. Just because they play the same instrument doesn't mean a damn thing.

I saw Vannessa Carlton live. I didn't choose to see her, but she opened for The Goo Goo Dolls a couple of years ago when "A Thousand Miles" was popular. She was absolutely terrible! Her songs were really, really bad, her voice wasn't all that hot, and she isn't a terribly great pianist.

She was the mutha of them all. . but stephanie mills is not even in the same genre as tori amos, kate bush, or vanessa carlton. stephanie mills has more more in common with diana ross or barbra streisand, doesn't she? i couldn't put her name in the same sentence with tori amos really. sorry.

Vanessa Carlton sounds nothing like Tori Amos to me. Instantly forgettable.

Mrs Mills - not Stephanie Mills. It's patently obvious to any musicologist that the mantle was passed to Kate by Hilda Woodward who inherited it from the great Mrs Mills: . .
