Slave: Stone Jam and other favorite tracks... Any Slave fanatics out there? In the early eighties, they were my favorite Funk Band! Monster Bassist Mark Adams( The Hansolor), Steve Washington(the Fearless Leader), Marc(Drac)Hicks, Floyd Miller , Ray Turner, Danny Webster, Steve Arrington(watch, out, he'll dive bomb you with them vocals!), Curt Jones, Starlena Young, etc.. Eventually half of them split off into Aurra (and later, Deja) and Steve Arrington's Hall Of Fame("Way Out" , "Nobody Can be You But You", "Weak at the Knees")
My favorte tracks: Slide (Marc "Drac Hicks" --he ain't gonna bite Ya; He just wants ya to hang on...) Just A Touch Of Love Never Get Away Steal Your Heart Watching You Stone Jam - until a few years ago, I always thought that solo was another one Marc "Drac" Hicks' Sreamin guitar solos---Didn't realize it was actually Keyboardist Ray Turner lettin' loose (Damn, he, had to be leanin' on that Pitch Wheel!) Just Freak (and Drac does at the end) Coming Soon ( I swear Steve Arrington must have been wearing a Dracula cape when they recorded this; one of his scarier vocal performances ) Spice Of Life Thank You For The Love Of You Are You Ready For Love Intro(Come To Blow Your Mind) Stay In My Life Sizzling Hot " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

"Snap Shot" (1981)
"Wait For Me" (1981) And isn't "Just A Touch Of Love" the most intoxicating groove you've ever heard?

It took me some time to get a handle on what he was doing. My first impression was "Is he doing that on purpose?". After a few listenings though my skepticism changed to...Yeah, an out vocalist, i'm with that. Tribal Disorder "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I remember him saying in an interview that he was influenced by Hendrix and Coltrane, and he was trying to express that in his vocal delivery...but it DID make for some unintentionally hilarious moments: "YAAAAAHHHHHWWWWBAYBAY..." I would sit there starin' at the radio, and think, "did he just dive bomb somebody?" " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout
