Actually, Euro techno and dance aren't very hot right now and Prince actually is. I wouldn't be surprised if his album sells close to what Britney's new one does.

Seriously doubt it.
Betcha she easily triples what Musicology sells in a year in just two months.

Well have to wait and see. Does anyone have the numbers of what Britney's album sold in it's first two months?

i don't know the two month sales figures but i know 'in the zone' has sold over 2 million copies in the US. not bad for someone whom everyone claims to dislike. lol

In The Zone has SHIPPED 2 million in the US (as it's double platinum). Units SOLD is a different matter altogether, however.

That is Billboard's list. Only RIAA certifications involve units shipped, not over-the-counter sales. wink

Problem is, many albums are over- or under-certified. Madonna's "Music", for instance, has actually sold almost 4 million copies in the US but is only certified double platinum. It's up to the record label or artist to apply for certification.

No sad . Unless you got access to the Soundscan database (have to be an industry person for that), you're pretty much out of luck. Though some fans keep running tallies as best they can for at least the first few months of release.

Britney sells "music" by stripping(i don't think that her so-called music should be considered music, its an insult to true musicians). Prince, Stevie Wonder, Tower of Power, and similar artists sell music because they have TALENT.

Just something for yal to think about.

regardless of whether you like britney or not, you shouldn't narrow you're definition of "music" so much. if you were in the 50's, you wouldn't consider anything to be music since most performers had studio musicians and songwriters working on their music.

Yeah, but 99.9% of THOSE "performers" could actually sing. Unlike Britney. As far as I can see she does have a talent for wearing PVC hot pants, though.

you know, that IS her singing in the studio. just because she doesn't sing live...please, i wanna see ANYBODY, SOMEBODY get up and dance like that AND sing. MJ never did...janet never did...madonna never did. now, yeah, these people sing on some songs when they are not dancing much but when janet or michael break their ass on the stage, they are also not singing. even madonna, on various television awards shows (mtv video awards come to mind when she did that AWESOME version of vogue) has lip synced. madonna, herself, has said "sometimes i have to decide if i'm going to be a singer or a dancer" when referencing not being able to do both at the same time.

Madonna never did? Call me confused, since she did that on DWT, the Reinvention Tour and oh, just about every tour in which she's sung live (which would be all of them; sure she's sung over backing tracks of certain songs, but not on the last two tours). Michael Jackson, in his earlier tours, did similar. And he and Janet actually sing their ballads live. Britney doesn't even do that. She doesn't sing anything live. Key word in Madonna's quote was "sometimes", not "all the time".

Britney's voice sucks. She can sing but she can't sing, know what I mean? Kinda like my 3-year-old cousin. Those studio tracks sound like they've been processed, tone-corrected and tweaked within an inch of their life.

But I know you like Britney.

oh c'mon! madonna has never been the same kind of performer as janet, michael and britney. yes, she has always had choreographed dancers but they've usually done all the work while she sings and dances around them. the big, choreographed style that the two jackson's and britney do is very different. and yes, britney does sing "everytime", the one ballad of the night.

and ever since mj became the entertainer he is famous for being, he's mimed on stage. the bad tour, the dangerous tour, the history tour...all mimed.

don't get me wrong, i don't think britney has a voice like christina or pink or beyonce...good lord, no...but i think every one is just way over the top with all the complaints about her. its like its just cool to bust on her...yet, she sells millions of records and has sold out many, if not most, of her tour dates. somehow, she's doing something right.

Not actually. Selling sex is her main goal right now, and copying what Madonna has done in the past..only worse. Yes She is a hell-uva dancer but otherwise.... i dont know about the rest.

Wait...she hasnt even "reinvented" herself...she has been looking the SAME way since she came out, when will she get rid of that damn haircut? It's very boring now.

she hasn't reinvented herself because she's NOT madonna. and i think almost every single pop star these days is selling sex. justin timberlake, christina, janet, usher. actually, all BUT madonna are selling sex. ok, well maybe not all, but you get my point, lol.

i think britney has spent most of her career trying to emulate her influences (ie janet and madonna). considering that she is only, what 22 (?), its probably normal. think about it...haven't we all tried to emulate our favorite pop stars? the big difference is we didn't do it in the spotlight. i have no doubt that she will eventually discover who she is and slowly morph into it. shit, i remember when madonna thought she was marilyn monroe.

U dont have 2 be Madonna 2 reinvent urself..at least she could cut her hair..dye it (more than just for one video). Prince does it all the time, Lenny is doin it, Lots O artists Pink, Christina change themselves...Justin...just keeps getting worse.. lol!

Britney really needs some better vocal coaches cuz her vox are 2 thin 2 even handle live shows... Janet dance the fuck off and goin on 40 and still sings live somehow.

now wait...she should cut or dye her hair because you think she should? or because madonna, christina and lenny change their hairstyles? isn't that what she gets knocked for all the tme already...being like other people? i don't get it. if she copies other people she is a no talent hack and can't think for herself. if she doesn't copy other people she is boring and needs to follow in there footsteps. hmmm...i guess she just can't win with some people.

bad tour was COMPLETELY live and parts of dangerous and HIStory was live..

So dont throw shit on mike...he is one of the VERY few people who can dance to a coreography and sing live!

Exactly. Michael has a wonderful voice. Britney cannot sing without the help of expensive studio wizardry. That is, I think, the defining difference between performer and puppet.

nod

And comparing britney to great artists like jj,madonna,mj,p is an insult...

What I think about Britney:

She has songs that people enjoy for a few weeks and they get cheesy so easily...She is an average entertainer in my eyes

hmmm...the videos i have of the bad tour (live in madison sq. garden) and the dangerous tour (live in bucharest) show him miming whenever there is intense dance...just like janet and britney. whatever, treva. it ain't all that important. i enjoy them all and don't really care one way or the other. its supposed to be entertainment. i think some of y'all take it just a few steps further.
