oH YEAH....BOOTSY COLLINS. although he has been silent for quite some time, anybody that plays the funk owes his ass.
He redefined the groove and nobody plays bass like him. James Brown and George Clinton owe his genius a great deal. Prince is playing Bootsy when he does JB. JB didn't give him credit cause he was young.

It's unfortunate that people who profess to know so much about music fail to read simple liner notes, but I digress.
My list: Stevie Wonder John Lennon Michael Jackson Prince Nina Simone Miles Davis Sly Stone James Brown

Since I agree with most of who's been posted already, I'm going out on a limb here to add Dolly Parton...
She does a style of music many here may not be into, but DAMN. WIth around 3,000 songs written through her 30+ year career, that is one DAMN brilliant woman. And, I would even veture to add she was one of the first female artists to get it exactly right with image/marketing and personal style. She knew what she had on her body and used it to her FULL advantage (and without ever having to show even a nipple!) Since she frequently sticks with 3 minute "simple" country songs she is often forgotten. But not by me. ..... [This message was edited Fri May 21 5:50:45 2004 by endorphin74]
