Anyone remember Taylor Dayne?

Wow, what a great voice. Halfway between Lisa Stansfield and Tina Turner, with a growling, bombastic style similar to Tina's. In fact, Anastacia sounds almost exactly like Taylor.

She had a solid run of hits from '88-'93, but, much like Stansfield, couldn't cut it in the US after that, although she remained very popular over in Europe.

Some of her defining songs:

"Tell It To My Heart"
"I'll Always Love You"
"Can't Get Enough Of Your Love" (a remake of the Barry White classic, this shows a more soulful side of her)
"With Every Beat Of My Heart"
"Love Will Lead You Back"
"Don't Rush Me"
"Prove Your Love"
"I'll Be Your Shelter"
"Send Me A Lover"

Some of these are dance-pop, but they're pretty good. Her second album was more rock-oriented, while her third was a foray into soul music. She released a critically-acclaimed album in 1998 (Naked Without You) but it was ignored. Last year, she released a live album on an independent label, and it's apparently fantastic, although I haven't heard it.

She's great. Too bad she is stuck in indie land. I wouldn't mind a comeback from her.

There's video footage( from around '89 or '90) of her onstage with Prince at an aftershow, singing "Still Would Stand All Time"...

I love Taylor Dayne. She's an amazing singer with a number of great singles in her catalog. My favorite is "I'll Always Love You" from 1988,a soulful masterpiece where her voice just soars. She really deserves much more success and recognition. If I'm not mistaken, she opened for MJ on his 'Bad' tour in 1988,and that same year, she appeared onstage with Prince. She's also a beautiful woman too.I may have to check out some of her recent CDs,which she now releases independently.

She often appears on those 70s Disco celebration TV specials.I could see her making a disco covers album. She already covered a Barry White song ("Can't Get Enough Of Your Love Baby") with great results.Imagine her voice on classics like "Don't Leave Me This Way","Last Dance" and "I Will Survive",it would be incredible!

"Send Me A Lover" nod Perhaps my favourite song by her. That song should've gain more attention than it did. There's also a version by Celine Dion that's really great. But, Taylor owned that one for me! razz

I thought I heard on one of those 'Where Are They Now' type shows that she was going to start doing rock-oriented music because she never really wanted to do the dance/r&B type music that the record company had her doing.

Thanks! That's quite what I thought when reading the thread's subject. Actually, I though "Yep. Unfortunately I do." hmm

In German there's a word for her voice: She's got a Knödel in her throat. Much like Kermit.

I went to a drag queen show last week and in my drunken stoop I asked someone..."Whatever happened to Taylor Dayne?"

I loved her in the 80's and she had the best voice of all her competitors...She was out during the dance/pop siren explosion of the late 80's....others included...

Lisa Lisa (loved her too!)
Cover Girls
Jody Watley
Pebbles
Expose.

In the year of comebacks...Taylor should come back and fire up the dance floors once again.

Yeah, Tell it to my Heart - was a cool song.

She emerged in a period when the female video queens with avg. voices had several dance hits - mostly produced by Full Force, LOL.

Other atrtsit who fit this category are: Samantha Fox, Lisa Lisa, Paula Abdul, Pebbles, and Paula Abdul.

SAMANTHA FOX! Damn...did she ever bite Lisa Lisa's style! Remember Full Force also produced an album for LaToya Jackson called 'LA-TOYA' or 'You're Gonna Get Rocked' or something. I had the tape....don't know what happened to it.
